    Hi Ive been awol for a few days and have just caught up with your diary - you've been doing so well - like the tip about the big maltesers!

    I can understand your worry about new pay day - I hope this helps and does not worry you more but when Ive started at a job they generally pay you at the end of the month you started the job - however many weeks you have worked ie if it was two weeks to payday when I started I got paid two weeks money - rather than worry is there anyway you could find out - do you know anyone who works there or could you phone personnel? - Perhaps thats a bit direct but thats what Im like - maybe its not the done thing!

    Well done on the catalogue being paid off :j:j big pat on the back and cheer with that one - you should be proud of yourself!

    Morning!

    Thanks HP about the tip about the kindler, I'm getting it from the rainforest though as I have vouchers for it there (£70 and counting).

    F1 I haven't paid freemans just yet, but as soon as my payment to vanquis clears (so I don't get charged interest) I will be paying them in full. I have also checked through old bank statements to see when I got paid with the new company for the first time the last time I worked for them. I started on the 16th aug and was paid the end of that month, so really confident I will be fine for Feb :)

    Have just checked my b/a and I'm getting £2030.11 this month as season ticket loan is fully paid :) I've tapped this into my spreadsheet and allocated everything to the right column, this includes paying freemans in full which leaves me with roughly £100 remaining. I'll put this in my pot in case I need more petrol than the £100 I've allocated (new job already requires travel to the Reading office for the induction). Also, as I don't have a season ticket from 5th feb onwards I'll have to start PAYGing which will need to be allocated. My petrol usage that I know of for this month coming will be 1 trip to bmth this weekend, 1 trip to cardiff the following weekend and a trip to Reading for induction (although if cheaper can be done by train/coach). I have emailed my new manager to ask which office I should be attending, this should all be expensable if it's not for my base office :)

    I've text my mechanic to tell him I don't think I will have done 2k miles between now and end of Feb, so can I please move the service to end of March. I'll be in a better financial position then and the car should have done enough miles to warrant a full service (sat at 38k atm). Which reminds me, I will have to call the insurance and get business class 1 re-added to the policy as I am likely to drive to more than one place of work.

    Having allocated everything to different budgets I feel a whole lot more in control, just hope I can still manage this when I actually have the money in the account instead of just numbers in a spreadsheet. I think I'll pay vanquis straight away so that money is gone, then when it clears next Tuesday I'll be able to pay freemans outright. I can't remember when the statements come through, I seem to remember it's a day or so after payday.

    With Freemans gone I'm going to have to start to tackle the hsbc overdraft, which is going to be tricky as they charge you £25 if you change the OD amount more than once every 6 months. I'm going to try to set the money aside to do this and not spend it. If I can manage this then next month I'll be OD free. I guess with budgeting I should be able to do this easy enough, but the temptation will still be there eep.

    I'm really hoping that as I settle into the habit of having £20 a week for my purse and £20 a week for groceries that I'll stop waiting for payday all the time. I used to work with a lady that had no idea when payday was because she budgeted like this *fingers crossed* that I can do the same :)

    2nd purse in simple terms using beans as example:

    * put £10 in 2nd purse
    * go to lido and buy 10 packs of beans @ 99p each (can be less packs but * get as many as you can afford/eat in a set amount of months, I'm doing 6-12mnths atm)
    * record in spreadsheet
    * find out current price of beans and record in spreadsheet on a weekly basis so you know what your shop should charge
    * buy beans from shop at current shop price (64p)
    * put 64p into 2nd purse (if you bought all the beans you would now have £25.60 in there making £5.60 profit)
    * go out and buy when there's an offer

    Nope, still clueless :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Why would you buy them at 99p if they are 64p? (Need a cross-eyed confused smily here!)

    They were 99p for 4 tins, they're currently 64p for 1 tin so profit of 39p a tin.
    I've setup a thread that details it a lot clearer let me find the link... ah here There's about 30 of us all joining in now and I have written up the best deals on the first page for each SM. Although there are probably more, and some are probably not as good as they could be, but I don't buy all the products listed.

  • Kerri, It sounds like things are still going great. :T

    Good to here you shouldnt have any major panics in feb over pay day ! I am finding it so easy to have different budgets for each expenditure. If theres anything left in any of them at the end of the month they go in my F&F or Emergency Fund.

    I have decided to have nothing in my purse at all :(, although I do have a jar with change in, so I raid that if I need an odd cheap something. If I had £20 a week, looking longingly at me from inside my purse, I think it would disappear in a puff of smoke. So far its working, and its stopped me buying any magazines which were my downfall.

    Ive seen your 2nd Purse thread, but I havent had a chance to read through it properly.

    Hope you have a good day x

    Right I'm all set with my spreadsheet, I now just enter things into the right column on my spending diary sheet and it updates all the rest, cool huh? I've also hunted down some olive oil which I need, that's going to be this months 2nd purse purchase :) It costs about 44p/100ml and I think that's fairly reasonable for organic olive oil. I will decant it into a nice 500ml olive oil bottle and charge myself for the full price which is £4.75 whenever I run out and have to top up the bottle. That'll be a very nice saving of £25.51 when I've used it all up :) I know I should be buying cheaper brands etc, but my body is a temple and I don't want to put anymore chemicals in it than London already does with the smog ;)

    Right off out with work for "congratulations we managed a migration" drinks and nibbles, but only 1 drink for me as need to walk my housemates dogs :)

    Hi Stephie, I do indeed :) I'm a database administrator. Although I haven't touched a database for months, hence the change of job when I will be flat out with the databases ;)
