We had this problem with dope smoke coming through to my 3 year old's bedroom. The house was rented so we didn't expect much. We went round, they said they'd stop, they did for about a week, got bored and it started again. So we phoned the owners and the tenants were given their notice, the landlord said they weren't happy with them anyway and this gave them a valid reason. I feel we gave them the chance to sort it out and I wasn't going to tolerate my son's room stinking of dope.
    Great advice here :T

Sounds like you're not the only one BA. Have a look at this article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=427520&in_page_id=1770

Could it be coming through any air vents?
You could try a plug in air freshner as i believe this will help,Also leave your bedroom window open to air it out,I think it is up to them if they choose to smoke it,Not sure that the police could do anything as you are allowed to smoke it i believe just not be a supplier.
Or like the other posts have said have a quite word.
    Good luck

I used to live in an old house and the smoke from next door was leaking in via bad brickwork under the floors. Where the wooden joists go through then there were lots of holes. So I bricked them all up properly.

  • Thanks for all the replies. My house was built in 1975 so I'm not sure if this is classed as an old house..

I've thought about having a quiet word but not really sure how they'd react. They keep themselves to themselves, I've lived here for 2 years now but its only been in the last few months that I've started to notice it.. Could they be growing it? I know its a 3 bedroomed house with only 2 of them living there..

Anyway, not got any kids so cant use them as an excuse. No vents in the bedroom apart from on the window frames which are permanently shut becaue the smell is outside too.

Apart from taking up the floorboards & having a look dont think there is anything I could do.

    Thanks again

Have a look in the loft you may find theres no wall between you and them ... just the same you may find a big plantation up there.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

OMG he's right, this could be a police matter. After all if there is a plantation and they ever got raided, you could get done too.
  • ASBO the neighbour up... pretty sure the police should do something about it if it's a) illegal b) causing a nuisance

TBH I'd recommend going along the building route myself. I'm a non smoker and if I had a neighbour who inflicted smoke onto my house then I'd be really concerned about it.

  • I appreciate that you may be tolerant of canabis use, but why should you have to pay out for work to be done to your house or put up with the smell that is clearly bothering you.
I am a police officer and can tell you that there are lots of way of dealing with the issue if you do not wish to confront your neighbours face to face.
Firstly, is the neighbouring property rented, DHSS or privately owned by the occupiers?
If is rented or DHSS then you should report the matter to the owners and they will take appropriate action against the occupiers.
You should report this to your local police. Again, if you wish to remain anonymous, call crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. You will not have to give any personal details at all.
Police will then assess this information and may decide to exceute a search warrant at the neighbours address. If a substantial quantity of drugs are found then arrests will be made and the owners of the premises will have the powers to evict the occupiers.
Whatever happens, your details will never be disclosed.
Also (appropriatley) if your information leads to convictions for substantial offences, you may receive financial reward. Again, all done anonymously.
