I haven't seen anyone else complain about that particular [STRIKE]problem[/STRIKE] feature.

I had an egg visa and egg mastercard. Transfer all went smoothly until I tried registering on mybarclaycard. Could only see the mastercard. called the call centre and was told the missing visa card would be added withing 5 days. 6 days later I checked and the visa card had indeed been added along with someone else's visa card!

I've now had to make another 4 phonecalls (the first suggesting its an egg issue and I should contact egg!). The general gist of the calls are that it must be my account as the address/name/DOB they are now holding against this extra visa card all match my details. Fortuneately someone else has set up a direct debit to pay it off!

Waiting for the fraud dept to contact me. Interesting that they are refering a procedural error with the transfer process (either with egg or barclaycard) to the fraud dept.

Not very impressed, doesn't look like the start of a longterm relationship.

Am I the only one who has this issue?

Wow - that is really bad!

Well it seems Barclaycard/Egg certainly are in a mess transferring accounts.

I've just had a telephone argument with them regarding the Direct Debit. Whilst they've 'transferred' the direct debit what they've forgotten to tell me is they would be moving the date too!!!

This is probably why some account holders haven't had their payments taken on the date(s) they'd expected.

Also been told by Barclaycard that they cannot move the payment back to the date which was agreed with Egg. Also as this account is 'closed' they say they cannot cancel the direct debit and let me set it up as a standing order - yes they don't seem to understand that you can set a direct debit up for a specific date and fixed amount.

They also don't see what they have done as breaking the direct debit guarantee and I should look forward to using all the benefits and features of their better account - at which point I reminded them its a closed account!!

Strictly I believe they may be correct here. A direct debit requires an action on behalf of the bank to "ask" for your money. If their systems (or indeed their policy) is to only allow for two types of direct debit - 100% payment or minimum payment, then they may not be able to add a fixed payment direct debit.

You on the other hand can simply set up a fixed standing order at your banks end to "push" the money their way. Though why you'd want to specifically risk under or overpaying would be something that I'm sure you understand the rationale for, so I won't question it.

  • If you go into the account online you can vary the existing Direct Debit to collect (i) Minimum payment, (ii) Full balance or (iii) A fixed amount (or min payment whichever is greater). You can also make additional payments by debit card which will reduce the D/D taken. What you can't apparently do is choose the payment date, but this is not uncommon with other credit cards.

    I stand corrected!!
  • I've also had loads of issues. I've been using Egg Money for years, always paid in full every month by DD and never been charged a penny. BarclayCard take over and sudderenly I'm charged £10 interest. I made a phone call and was told that it was because I missed a payment. I told them that I have a DD setup which takes full payment every month so that was impossible. They put me on hold and came back to tell me some waffle about how it was actually my fault, but since I didn't know they would refund it this one time! I asked if I would be charged any interest if I continue paying in full each month going forward. I was told I would not pay interest in this case. However on looking at my account online it says that next month I will be charged £28 interest and I still have not recieved the refund! More emails going to barclay card to get this sorted. It makes me wonder if they are actaully trying to get customer like us (non profit) to close their accounts?

...and so much for their letter of appology and fixing it by COB on the 11th November as per:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/cards/2011/11/barclaycard-to-fix-egg-credit-card-transfer-problems

    More to follow....

    Barclay's
  • Are you sure the interest figure you say you will be charged next month isn't simply the one quoted on the statement that assumes you will pay the minimum payment? I pay mine off every month too but this figure is always on the statement in case you decide to make only the minimum payment.

The interest they charged me was refunded the day after I called them.

The transfer to Barclaycard left me with two direct debits showing on my current account, the one for my old Egg account and a new one for Barclaycard.

There was no balance on the card so neither have been collected. I cancelled the old Egg one yesterday, and received this by email:

Interestingly they'd be happy for a response by email, which they've got no way of authenticating.

I'll send them a secure message and explain what has happened, though I'm tempted to cancel them both and then re-establish it separately via their website.

Anyway, if anyone is tempted to tidy up their direct debit list like I did, probably best not to...
We got this email as well - I cancelled the Egg one as it is no longer valid and left the Barclaycard one live - they are really beginiing to stress me out - cant wait for March cashback - then its goodbye Barclaycard!

Also when I asked why we couldnt have 13th statement date and 1st DD - I got following email

Your billing day has been changed to day 6 and your due date will be between the 2nd and 11th of each month -

This makes no sense at all as if the 11th statement date produces payment on around 25th - how can the 6th make DD date 2nd - 11th.

Have now sent a Complaint secure message as I am confused as to how this helps at all.

Other email reply I got when I asked them to confirm the date the DD would hit my account and they said 25th!!! When in fact it should be 28th or even 30th as 30th is due date on Statement.

As I work somewhere that takes DD payments monthly our customers due date is 25th and this is the day the DD hits their account.
  • I'm having the same problem as many of you. Just received my statement and they have charged me £9.24 interest even though I pay every month by direct debit. I emailed them and got a reply the next day saying:

"We only charge interest for those days that the balance is outstanding on your account. We cannot calculate your Interest in advance as we don't know on which day you intend making your payment, your Interest is always applied 1 month in arrears. This way you only pay for those days that you borrowed from us.

If you pay your purchase balance in full every month by the payment due date we do not charge any purchase interest, however if you only make a partial payment one month and then pay in full the following month we charge interest for the length of time the money was outstanding between the statement being printed and the full payment being received.

The charge you see relates to the outstanding balance between your statement being produced and your payment being received. If you do not pay for your new purchases in full we will always charge purchase interest until the day you pay your balance off in full."

That last paragraph sounds like they are charging me interest on my new purchases??

Am going to try and telephone them!!
