MSE News: Barclaycard to fix Egg credit card transfer problems

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone else has had my problem - I received the letter from Barclaycard saying they were transferring my Egg card account. Ordinarily that would be no problem, however I closed my Egg account several years ago when they decided they no longer wanted me as a customer as I wasn't profitable enough for them. I paid off the account and closed it.
I've contacted both Barclaycard (told to contact Egg) and Egg (told - nothing to do with us contact Barclaycard)!!!
So I have incorrect data being held about me and no-one seems to want to sort out - I think they have both broken the data protection laws and now am at a loss what to do. I also checked my credit reference files just in case and they show the account as closed.
Anyone else had these problems?

Martin's article says to check credit reports...who does Barclaycard report to?0

The only problem I have had with the transfer is being unable to change the PIN to something else. Unable to change it at a Barclays or non-Barclays ATM for whatever reason.0

Hey ho,
Sounds like exactly the same problems as when Morgan Stanley card were transfered to Barclays some X years ago.0 -
I am already a barclaycard customer. I couldn't see my ex egg card onliner under my existing ID.
Rang them up and they said it would be rectified within 2-3 working days.
That was 5 working days ago. I am still waiting ....0 -
I found that I had been charged nearly £6 interested even though I have never missed a payment and have always paid in full. When I called up they said that it was because I had made a part payment on my Egg balance and that Barclaycard charge for that.
When I questioned them on it and said that it had happened before the switchover, they said that I would still be charged. I asked to be put through to cancellations, 5minutes later they come back saying that they were too busy and I couldn't cancel and that I would still be charged the interest.
The chap on the phone said that "if I had a father and he died and I had to have a new father, I may not like him but I have to accept his rules".
Eventually did get the charge waived but he quite aggressively told me that if I "did it again" they wouldn't waive any charges and I would have to pay it.0 -
Reading everyone else's problems just highlight how shamblic Barclaycard are.
I am still unable to access my Barclaycard account following the transfer on 7 Nov and my egg account is now closed. This i am told is due to website errors and following many conversations with India (and with them on the phone whilst doing it) the system still does not allow me to log in. The latest fiasco involved an email from the internet helkp team which gave me a number to call. This number goes to an automated machine for a system called "phonecheap" it then asks for a number and after giving the Barclaycard recomended tel number the answer is "this number is not one of our subscribers, sorry, have a nice day"
I have now given up trying and complained to the Financial Ombudsman Service unfortunatley Barclaycard have 8 weeks to reply.0 -
I cleared my balance with an extra payment to cover the interest before the Egg account was closed, the payment did not show within a week and when I phoned Barclaycard as nothing showed on this accoung was told I had to phone another number for Egg. I did this and Egg advised me that they had no account details since Barclay card took over. I then went back to Barclay card who advised me the interest was taken would show the next day. I phoned back to find that Barclay card had refunded my interest payment and the interest would not show for another week. I have now been told to phone back again then and if they can find the card details they may tell me how much the o/s interest is and allow me to try and pay it again. They don't listen, have not transferred anything correctly and in one case the man who took the call was downright rude. I am glad card is paid off and I will be closing account as do not wish to have anything to do with them0

Card & PIN recieved OK and in time. However Barclaycard set up a new Direct Debit with the new card number. So I cancelled the Egg Money Direct Debit only to recieve a letter stating that I ahve cancelled the Direct Debit. When I cancelled the Egg Money Direct Debit in mybarclaycard account the Direct Debit was not showing any more. So I panicked and paid the last statement balance with my Debit card on Saturday got credited on Monday and they took the Direct Debit for the same amount on Tuesday. Phoned up to get one of the payments refunded. Only refunded the credit balance and not the full amount. Will phone up in the morning to hopefully get the rest of the payment refunded. Also the Direct Debit has been cancelled from my account without me asking it to be.0
