Have spoken to a fraud expert whom says 'that a red flag should have goen up when a large sum was deposited into an account that was overdrawn for sometime.Essecially when the beneficary's name did not match account details. There is no "hole" that you can find in this case, you transferred money to an account without checking that you were sending it to the correct recipient. Transfers are made between accounts, names don't come into it, it's your responsibility to make sure you're sending your money to the right person. In your case, technically, your transfer wasn't an error, you selected the account where the money was to go, why would the bank be willing to do anything for you ? If they offered this, then the whole system would be wide open to abuse, people would be claiming money back which had been sent legitimately whenever they found themselves a bit short !
Why should AML have been applied ? You'd have been complaining about that too if it had happened.
I'd be gutted and very sad too, but it was YOUR mistake, no-one elses.
I would not complain about AML as it is a safety check. Safety checks good for all!The same as when u use a card card on line a few times the banks call to make sure the purchases where made by the card holder.
I realise l have made a mistake, really, you do not need to remind me, people make them all the time. I just would like to get back my missing money back. Put yourself in my position, would you not do anything you could to get the money back?? I am making posts here in case anyone can offer good, advice or has been in this situation and can help me.
Remind me Why do we have banks????0 -
Slightly off topic and I know this doesn't help the OP, but I doubt this particular transfer went by faster payments. Most banks have a daily limit for faster payments and any transfer over the limit would go as a standard 3 day payment. I strongly believe that £10k would be well over most daily limits for FP.0

Daily limit with Barclays is 10,000. so unfortunatly it did get deposited the same day as it was transferred via the internet fast payment. Thank you for 'thinking' outside of the box. Good stuff just need a few more people whom are not negative and rude to think for me too.Slightly off topic and I know this doesn't help the OP, but I doubt this particular transfer went by faster payments. If you dropped 5p down a drain would you expect to be able to walk into Lloyds and ask them to reimburse you? I assume not. So why do you expect them to reimburse you because you dropped £9k down a drain? Your only recourse is against the recipient. You know this - but are desperate to try to pin blame/responsibility on someone (anyone) else because you believe the recipient will be unable to repay if you taker the proper course of action - namely to consult a solicitor and sue the recipient. You've made a mistake. Learn from it.0

Its required as its placed on your statement as a reference to yourself. It can be anything, for example "Rent", its just so you can reconcile your transactions at the end of each month.what sort of 'safety net' is it when the name of a beneficiary does not match account details and the money is still transfered using the account details and NOT all details. Why is a beneficiary's name required in the first place if it is not used or checked??
As explained by others, it would be infeasible to match the recipient details for various reasons. Least that its not even transferred (just a reference is, for their statement).0 -

If it becomes a civil matter Crown Court cost would be out of the question for me. So I need to try and work out how to get the money back. NOT trying to blame anyone, except myself. I made the mistake, What l am trying to do is find a way 'out 'of this and get my money back. This seems a logical thing for anyone to do in my postion. There MUST be something the banks can do to aid me in some way. Otherwise the system is deeply floored in respect of taking care of people and protecting money ( even thought l made the mistake) Humanity????charlieboycat wrote: »If you dropped 5p down a drain would you expect to be able to walk into Lloyds and ask them to reimburse you? Do you have the details (name/address) of the girl who spent the money? Perhaps its time to take it to court. I'm not sure if the amount is over the small claims limit and would therefore need to be dealt with differently. Unfortunately even going down that route and winning doesn't mean you will get your money back.
*edit* - cross post with yours above - surely you would win so costs would be paid for by the other party?0 -
It is insulting to me for anyone to suggest that l have not learned from a mistake that has so heavily cost me not just financially but emotionally too.0
