Could someone who has the book have a quick flick through and let me know what proportion of rcipes are dairy free? I'd like to ask for it for Xmas but it's not worth it if every other recipe calls for cheese/cream etc.
From the book 'So, to be absolutely clear, all the recipes that follow are suitable for vegetarians. Since I have used dairy products and eggs, they are not all appropriate for vegans. But over a third of them are (those marked (V), and another third easily could be, if suitable substitutes for butter and milk were used. If you're a vegan, you'll know what to do.'
Hope this helps...0 -

Sorry, I forgot to bring the book... I can try to put it from memory, I've done it enought times!
Curry Paste
Half kg Onions
12 cloves garlic
1-inch piece of ginger
Small tin tomatoes
2 teaspoons ground coriander
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons mixed curry powder
1 teaspoon chilli powder (if you like it spicy)
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Cut the onions in quarters, peel the garlic cloves & ginger, cut the ginger in big pieces. Put it all in a pan and cover with cold water. Cover, take it to the boil and simmer it for about 30 min (till the onions are very tender). Add the spices and tomato and simmer for another 10-15 min. Add oil and let it cool down. Blend it till it's smooth and store in it in pots (I use the 500 ml yoghourt pots). It can be frozen.
ANY spices you like can be added to the mix, I try to add different spices sometimes to see how it comes out. I like cinnamon and I never use chilli as I don't like spicy food.
To make chicken Korma, fry some pieces of chicken, add the paste and let it cook a bit, then add 100 ml cream, 2 tablespoons of grated coconut and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Let it cook till it thickens.
Other curries can be made by adding peppers, fresh tomatoes, etc...
I will check tonight in case I forgot something!!0 -
Thanks Alisha2008,thats sounds lovely..think i have everything except the turmeric.I would probably stick with the spicier version and use the chilli,(korma version sounds a bit sweet for me)...theres a large butternut squash in my veggie box,so I'l maybe use your recipe for butternut and lentil curry??Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

I've done it with sweet potatoes and chickpeas and it was very nice, I guess any vegetable will work.0

Inspired by the series on TV and your comments, I ordered the book - £10.99 on amazon. Arrived today, and I love it. We eat veggie about 90% of the time, and my DS is always veggie. I have been sitting with my calendar filling in a meal planner for the next few weeks and genuinely feel quite excited about making quite a few of the recipes.
There are a few in there that we already make our own version of, but as a vegetarian cookbook, it is fantastic. It is a lot bigger than I expected - over 400 pages.
I am looking forward to some new meals over the next few months.
Definitely recommended.
Thank you.Debt free and saving :j0 -
I watched this series with great interest. I didn't like the bit where he took his sheep for slaughter and we had to look inside an abattoir though -pale-
Most of the recipes he featured on the programme weren't vegan though, but if there are plenty of vegan and veganisable recipes in the book I might just be tempted to buy it.
The little party he threw at the end looked good, but I wonder if he made vegan stuffed squash for the vegans - the ones he showed us had dairy in them.0 -

How many curries could you make from this quantity of paste?0 -
I have this book on my "not xmas due to being a pagan " list..lol but was wondering if anyone would be good enough to give me the recipe for the magic dough ?
I want to make homemade chick pea curry tomorrow and that should really fit it nicely with it.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
