Does anyone have this book? My OH bought it for me a couple of weeks ago, and tonight we had the swede speltotto, which was delicious :j
I am planning the mushroom stoup for dinner friday night, with the herby dumplings, and the roasted sprouts with shallots with our roast chicken on saturday (we aren't actually veggie, I just like to eat less meat, as we can't afford to buy as much FR chicken and pork and properly aged beef and lamb as we would like!)
We had the roast cauliflower with paprika and lemon the other night as a side dish, it was OK, not amazing, but something different to cauli cheese
Look forward to hearing from anyone else who has been making stuff from this one.

I've bought it and it's EXCELLENT! Most mainstream cookery books have pathetic excuses for vegetarian recipes (Nigella and Jamie, I'm looking at you...) but this book has great recipes that I actually want to eat.
So far I've made the pinto bean chilli - excellent, and plenty of leftovers for the freezer, the biryiani (also great), the flatbreads, and the leek and canellini bean soup. I've also made one of the noodle salads and the winter veg stir fry. It's rapidly becoming one of my favourite cookery books.
Most of the meals appear to be nutritionally sound, in that they have some source of protein and aren't slathered in cheese.0 -
That's it I am going to buy this book today. Anything Hugh FW says is Gospel to me anyway, I love him!0

its on my list to buy
wanted to try the polenta fingers with salsa they made in the first programme0 -
I've been watching the show (maybe the book will go my christmas list) and have been thoroughly impressed. I'm not much of a veggie person but I found myself getting quite tempted by some of the recipes! I may cut down to fish, veg and fruit and have only on special occasions.
I actually prefer Hugh FW to most of the other TV chefs as he works with things that are easy to obtain and tells me what I can with leftover.Dec GC; £208.79/£220

Amazon have it for £11.99 at the moment...
I've got it, and have made about 4 of the recipes so far, the favourite at the moment is macaroni peas - as seraphina says above it makes a nice change to get a complete choice of veggie stuff rather than a tiny section in a cookbook.0 -
OOH lovely, I have been eyeing up the macaroni peas, and the pinto bean chilli is on the meal plan for next month. (hmm looking at it, I have pea and mint risotto planned for one day, that might get switched to macaroni peas
) The speltotto was lovely, a real change, OH loved it (lots and lots of black pepper made a real difference) I have made risotto with barley before, but never spelt.
I want to make the flat breads. Do you reckon they would freeze OK? Its just me and the OH and I try not to eat too much bread-I love it but my guts and my thighs don't0 -
I've frozen home made and shop bought flatbreads/naan breads/wraps and pittas no problems-just like freezing normal bread really.

Got the book yesterday but not made anything yet. It does all look delicious, I was so excited about a book based on vegetarian food that was simple, natural, rustic, not full of bloody quorn fillets and cheese!!!Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0

Yes, I agree-as I've said, I'm not veggie, but trying to cut back, but I HATE quorn with a passion, and think that if I'm having a veggie day, a meat substitute defeats the purpose!
The best bit is, as the OH bought it for me with no prompting-he cannot complain when I feed him from it :D:rotfl:0
