We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

  • A properly-seasoned cast iron wok is virtually nonstick and will last a lifetime.

You shouldn't really need to scrub a wok. A quick wipe with a damp cloth should get anything off it.
  • This ken hom wok is wonderful. I googled and found a very good price at idealshopping

    Hi everyone,
I think my faithful Tefal wok has finally bitten the dust and I need to get a new one! The bottom of it has all flaked off and constant scrubbing of the whole thing hasn't done it too much good.

I use it almost every day so would need a non stick one, need it to be really, well, fab!

Can anyone recommend one? Would spend around £20, it needs to be good value for money tho ;)

    Thanks :)

How long did you have the faithful Tefal for? if its been a good while, and as you say you used it everyday, then these your answer.

On the other hand, if you've only had it a month, then maybe Tefal arn't any good.

I was given one last christmas, and although I seasoned it and followed the care instructions, it kept going rusty. I also got a build up of black stuff which kept flaking off into the food. What am I doing wrong?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

WRT the rust, you have to make sure it's thoroughly dry before storing (and not store it anywhere where it may get damp or splashed with water). After cleaning, I usually dry it with on the hob on for a minute or two to make sure it's completely dry.

The build up of black stuff shouldn't happen if you scrub the wok after each use (with water and a nylon scrub brush... don't use washing up liquid).

I LOVE cast iron cookware and only wish that it was more readily available here. In Canada you can buy cast iron cookware that's preseasoned and it's brilliant.

    HTH! :)

    Hi everyone,
After my previous post I went out and bought this wok: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8610399.htm

However I've just realised that it isn't non stick.

I'm a bit worried about it as I've never used anything non-stick before apart from an old frying pan years ago, and it was a disaster!

I can't use olive oil in my cooking at the moment, just spray oil (on a diet) - will this make everything stick to it?

    thanks!
