Hi Julia,
Now that you've made your choice I'll add this thread to the main thread on buying a wok to keep the recommendations together for others who might be looking for one.

I would also recommend Circulon woks, they're the best, had mine years and none of the coating has come off, plus it has a lifetime guarantee as you say.
IIRC they use them on Ready Steady Cook
I have noticed they often use Circulon pans on Saturday Kitchen and Something for the Weekend too!0 -
I want to buy a wok, one that will last me years.
I use my woks for Curries, spag bol, all sorts.
I don't know whether to choose

For this money, I want it to last [STRIKE]forever[/STRIKE] years anyway0 -

Hiya Mrs E!
LeCruset one is heavy - good for bingo wings but not enjoyable to use:D.
I have had several, and always have two on the go at any one time. The best I have had is the non-stick, steel 30cm one from Tesco:D. Not too heavy and has lasted over 10 years (and I have just brought a new one as DS1 was a bit heavy handed and scratched the non-stick:rolleyes:). My other favourite is one that was briefly produced by tupperware and is stainless steel with a very, very good non-stick surface but I don't think this range ever made it into general circulation really.
Seriously, it is not expensive but is a real cooks tool, just thick enough to spread the heat well and not so thick as to break your wrists lifting it:D
My Prestige one was quite good to use - but I didn't find the non-stick as good and it certainly didn't last as long."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
Best wok is one from a chinese supermarket that you season.
I prefer a light one so I can lift everything off the hob easily without any problems.
non stick pans are not very good for the high heat that you cook stir frys with.0 -
Both woks you mention looked great in the pictures, but you can't tell what they are really like till you start cooking with them. A chinese friend of mine (who ran a very successful take-away in Plaistow) told me that you should never ever wash the wok. Just give it a quick wipe round with a bit of kitchen roll. He said that anything surviving the intense heat of their cooking, deserved to live. As much as I would have liked to follow his recommendation, I am a bit of a brillo pad wielding maniac. Hence, I have ruined 2 woks and am now on my third. We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.0

I do want a 36cm one, not a 30cm, as I often spill stuff out when in there stirring.
I'm trying to follow SW, thats why I want a really good non-stick one, not one I need to do myself with the dreaded oil!!!!
I know even Circulon tarnish with age & wear.
Thats why I'm leaning to the Le Cruset one, as its probably industructable even cooking without oil.0 -
I have a Tefal wok & its OK, but the latest in a line of them.

I want a big "forever" :smileyhea wok0 -
Best and most versatile wok I have ever had is the one I am currently using....have had it for 12 or 13 years....stainless steel, comes with lid and steamer tray....paid about £20 for it in Argos....no idea what it would now cost in Sterling but I have used it for many things and if it blackens a bit the black comes off with a nylon potscrub without very much elbow grease.
