I have the wok that my Dad bought my Mum as a gift over 30 years ago! It's bright orange on the outside and has a few little dents but it's still going strong.Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0

Tefal pans are great - we use ours for allsorts - curry, chilli, stirfry etc

Do you find that the non-stick comes off it easily? It looks quite like the one I've been using, which is the perfect shape and size, as you say, for curry, chilli etc. Do you put it in a dishwasher?0 -
I love the idea of a stainless steel wok, but have had one in the past and I'm too lazy to look after it properly. I know once you have them all seasoned they are brilliant, but I'm too impatient.
I have a Circulon wok, which I got as a Christmas pressie a couple of years ago - its brilliant. Certainly not the cheapest out there, but I would highly recommend it. It's non-stick but has the cricle ridges and I remember reading the blurb that came with it that they are designed to still work as non stick, even after scracthes etc to the surface. I think it even has a lifetime guarantee
I use mine loads, and it works a treat.0 -
I have had a stainless steel wok for about 10 years and am very satisfied with it...I bought it in Argos but can't remember even the approximate price...it has a lid and a steamer thingy which is great if I am doing something like whole fish as my steamers won't hold anything very big.

Thank you so much, everyone, for all your help. In the end, I've gone for the Tefal pan recommended by nuttyrockeress, but I realise that I might also get a lot of use from a 'real' carbon steel wok for doing proper stir fries at very high heat. I think the Tefal pan is something I will use everyday for things like dry-frying onions, mince etc. I work in Manchester, so I'm going to nip into Chinatown one day this week and have a look around!

Oh you have decided on the Tefal one?
I had one of these, lasted many years - just like Meanmarie. DS2 used it for something it was not designed for (involved rocks and a hammer ... and the handle was broken off) and so I went to replace it. I bought the one in the link and it is definitely not as good as my previous one, the heat transference is carp! Takes absolutely ages to heat up and even when simmering a chili I need to keep the ring on pretty high. I have an electric hob so might be different on gas, but thought you might like to know.

It's only a game

My wok is a Sharwoods freebie that I've had for about 5 years. It's only used for stirfrying veg, but it's lasting well, which is suprising, as you'd think it would be really inferior quality.0

I would also recommend Circulon woks, they're the best, had mine years and none of the coating has come off, plus it has a lifetime guarantee as you say.
IIRC they use them on Ready Steady Cook0
