Parking Charge Notice received
ryon
Hi There.
This is my very first thread or post ever, so please be gentle.
I received a Parking Charge Notice on Sunday stuck to my windscreen in Sainsburys in Darlington. The company is Town and City Parking based in Perth and the reason was Parked in excess of permitted free period.
I foolishly made two assumptions, firstly that no parking attendant patrolled these premises as I have never seen one, and secondly that parking in all of Darlington was free on a Sunday (which is was up until recently).
I have read all over google that these can just be ignored and will go away after letters from them and debt recovery companies. I am just really worried about costs escalating from the £30 fine (if paid within 10 days) to endless charges and debt collector fees. So i thought I would ask the people of this site as the reputation is excellent. Can I just ignore, confident that this will magically disappear or do I need to write to the company and try to challenge it? I was thinking about saying that I had left part way through the time there and managed to get parked back in the same spot (which is a lie, it was there the whole time, but thought it would be worth a bash?
Please help if you can.
Thanks and I appreciate all comments.

Yes, you can, and should, just ignore everything.
Scroll down here and see what letters you can expect:

It doesn't matter how much the demands escalate to, they are still unenforceable0 -
Yep, just ignore them. We don't encourage anyone to lie about anything because most people, like you, just make honest mistakes.
However, because you were in a free car park, you don't owe them anything despite your error.
Relax and ignore!0 -
Yes as above comments, treat these letters like you would toilet roll.0

Yes, same as you were OK to ignore it on this thread too:

Nothing has changed, it is not even difficult, it's not a fine and does not affect your credit rating. Ignoring the letters is simple, just like ignoring a series of phishing emails. I have ignored one myself as have most regulars on here. We KNOW it's a scam and that's why we are here!
Still not sure? What about reading this light-hearted thread...

It's not a fine and any add on 'charges and fees' are purely plucked out of thin air with the same legal enforceability as the original ie. none.
Just carry on ignoring. TCP have never ever taken anyone to court anyway.0
