hope you get your boiler sorted quickly. we don't have central heating because there's no gas in our area so i'm mega jealous of those with it. it's one of our few must haves when we eventually get our house.0

Fingers crossed and will update my diary once I have any news. How is your house heated just now? Never thought of myself as lucky to be able to have central heating!Council Tax £1,928.85, Fines £90.00, Old Car Tax £267.00, Gas £337.25, Electric £54.42

we had storage heaters that were just useless and ate money, now we have the portable electric oil radiators and a calor gas heater which are ok. We've always struggled to keep this place warm though, last year i was moaning a lot about how we couldn't get a room above 15 after heating it all night. Early this year we got new double glazing and it seems to have made a huge difference but we'll see what this winter is like before i'm uncrossing my fingers. you ARE very very lucky to have central heating, i know it's not working at the moment but really it's not cold enough for it to be too much hassle, layers really are derigour you know! lol except for the hot water issue which is horrible, though i have before now turned mine off to save costs as the shower, washer, kettle heat from cold anyway.0

How are the oil filled radiators and calor gas heater when it comes to cost? Are you looking for non mains gas (eg LPG tank or oil tank in the garden) central heating in the longer term? My folks can't get mains gas either so they have a solid fuel (anthracite) boiler which may be an option for you? I'm not sure what they are like these days as there one is over 30 years old and still going strong! It does involve having to get the fuel delivered and stored and you have to manually cart the fuel into the house but it only takes a couple of minutes a day so isn't any trouble at all.
Layers are becoming my best friend and am even wearing them to bed! The gas fire in the living room is working, temperamentaly, in the meantime. I'm not too bothered about the central heating to be honest as I haven't had it on yet this year apart from one evening I had friends round who were moaning about the cold. The hot water is more annoying though so it's boiling the kettle for washes at the sink or popping to a friend's house to steal a shower.Council Tax £1,928.85, Fines £90.00, Old Car Tax £267.00, Gas £337.25, Electric £54.42

when we get our house we will have mains gas central heating (or we're not even going to bother doing to view it to be honest).
last winter we were paying about £30 per month for gas cylinders and our leccy works out about £47 per month which breaks even over the course of a year. but i am the leccy police in our place, turning things off and running things over night wherever possible. I'm also the queen of timers lol0 -

So the heating is a must have then! £30 and £47 sound not too bad for a Victorian terrace. I'm far more conscious of when I switch things on and off this year.Council Tax £1,928.85, Fines £90.00, Old Car Tax £267.00, Gas £337.25, Electric £54.42

Good evening,
How has everyone's Rememberance Sunday been?
Have spent today investigating options for my boiler. I have looked at crisis loans and budgeting loans from Jobcentre Plus and boiler scrappage grants from the Energy Savings Trust Scotland. Will call both tomorrow and will also contact turn2us to see whether there is any help that I am entitled to. I received a letter with two quotes for boiler work from the local Care and Repair charity but both will now by invalid since the boiled has been condemned as being uneconomical to repair. I'm not sure what I should do with regards to the charity anyway as the reason I had contacted them was to get financial assistance for repairs rather than just to get quotes which I could have done myself!
Have also ordered my first veg box and eggs which are due to arrive on Wednesday. I did another late night shop, this time with BHS as was tempted by their 20% off everything. I ordered 2 duck egg chenille throws (£10 each) and 2 fleece throws (1 red and 1 ivory) (£10 each) and it came to £32 with the special offer. Delivery was free on orders over £10 which I thought was low compared to other online shops. Got £1.61 via Top Cashback too. I know I shouldn't be spending but I'm attempting to get the flat in a fit state to rent my spare room out to a lodger. The chenille throws will protect my new sofas and the fleece throws will cover tub tatty tub chairs that I will put in the room I will rent out. I am therefor considering it to be an investment which will pay me back very quickly as I will be able to throw more money at my debts. Am I fooling myself? Transferred the £5 survey credit from PayPal to my “war chest” account. Desperate to hit reward levels on various surveys sites; so close yet so far!
Have resisted spending today even though I'm now out of milk so I'm now onto cups of fruit tea. Cheap tea out of the stocks I have; SF coated chicken with mash and baked beans. After eating I settled down to wade through the pack that CCCS emailed me. Have filled out all the letters I need to send to creditors offering a token payment in the short term. Most are ready to send but need to check a couple of account numbers and addresses by phone tomorrow. Will need to check all of their bank details too so that I can set up standing orders for the token payments. Also need to recontact the CCCS to update my creditor list as they have listed a £2953 debt as £253! Does anyone know what I am meant to do once I have tried to balance my budget and have contacted my creditors? Do I get back to CCCS as they were unclear of this on the phone and my brain was completely fried by the end of the call anyway!
Right, off to try to read through some of your diaries to which I have subscribed. Can't remember who has done what to whom and why and in which thread so forgive me if I get confused when I post replies!
Today's positives
Written letters to creditors using CCCS pack
Investigated options for boiler
Transferred survey £5 from PayPal to "war chest"
Today's negatives

I am exactly the same when I really get into something like cleaning but I suppose that's because it doesn't happen that often. I'm so messy and so lazy when it comes to cleaning.
I would love a Victorian terrace so I'm mega jealous that you have one but I suppose the downside of a beautiful old house is that there can often be problems when it comes to our modern needs; wiring, plumbing, windows etc. Hope you manage to get the place how you want it soon but it's a shame it won't be before your wee one arrives. Do you have a nursery ready?
Had a call from Heating Quoter, whose form I had filled out online, who will now forward my details to three companies so that will now be six with the three that Rated People will be contacting.
Having a think about what to post in my diary today as haven't done anything money saving but equally haven't spent any money. Hmmm.
The same here!! i hate cleaning and im a horder.. it wont be happening again anytime soon lol :-) feels amazing to have let go of some stuff.. you can concentrate with a house packed full of stuff.. its good to get stuff organized... It wont last tho hehe..
The house had alot of stuff to do to it.. but is feeling really good to put my own stamp on it.. just found a factory outlet for laura ashley.. Which forum is the sealed pot challenge in? Is it basically putting your spare change in a piggy bank or a specific amount in every day/week?
Hardly ever in Laura Ashley as the home bit in the store here is tiny. No outlet shops of any type without a 2 hour plus drive! Grrr.Council Tax £1,928.85, Fines £90.00, Old Car Tax £267.00, Gas £337.25, Electric £54.42

Its just put some money in the sealed pot whenever you have some.. u can set a goal and keep a track of the amount in your signature..
Im wanting a new shed (sad i know) but the one at the bottom of our garden has caved in and i would much rather spend the money on clothes lol.. so this pot is dedicated to it.. hopefully next summer.. at the moment my sons garden toys are getting ruined (weve covered them in plastic in the meantime..but its not ideal, and the caved in version looks so ugly!
I walk in laura ashley and do a you turn, but a factory outlet one with 2nds is much more up my street.. love a bargain0
