What's the sensitivity of your speakers?
It's an indication of efficiency i.e. how much energy from the amp output stage is converterd into sound energy.

I only gave the above ebay links as examples.
For cheap systems on ebay just go to eg. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Home-Cinema-Systems-/72406/i.html
and put in "nearest first".
You don't even need one that plays discs properly - just use your own inputs from eg mp3 player or pc/laptop.

You really do need to get a separates system. I.e cd player, amplifier and,a decent set of speakers. Plus, you will need cales and interconnects to hook it all up. More about that later.....

The first thing you really have to realise is, that loud isn't necaserrily the best sound. Music should natural.

Speakers are measured not only in watts, but also have a sensitivity figure, which is measured in db for one wat at one metre away. So, if you see a figure of 90 db w/m then, those speakers will give 90db volume of sound measured from one metre away. The higher the figure the louder those speakers will go on a given volume on a given amp.

As I said,mseperates are the best way to go, and marantz do a cracking cd player for under £200 , the same with an amplifier. Monitor audio for speakers-around same
