I just feel that by NOT making a comment, the police would see that as an admission of guilt, I know I certainly would?
I welcome the police to come & look at my car, I want to get my say, I want the police to then charge him for wasting their time & resources.
Unless you have received something different to what I think you have, at this time you are only being asked to name the driver. Doing more than that may merely assist the Police in making their case against you.

It's likely that once you have named the driver you'll be invited down to the local Police Station for a cozy chat about what happened. At that stage you need to consider carefully whether to accept and whether you should now appoint a solicitor to act for you.

There is much better free help on the site I posted earlier. This isn't my area of expertise and over there you will find practising solicitors and current and former Police officers. They will fully explain your rights and responsibilities and what you can expect to happen from here.

The one thing I would suggest you do is sit down and make a written account of exactly what happened on the night in question. Such an account done now, early on, may be very helpful if you are required to recall these events in a few months time.

My son in law related this 1 to me yesterday, It's not particularly relevant to this thread but shows what goes on.

He was parked up in Tesco's car park, the kids were playing up in the back which is why he didn't get involved.

Bloke pulls into car park, parks up and disapears into store. Within a minute or so the car slowly "reverses" diagonally out of it's spot and wallops the car behind it. Cracked bumper, dented wing and smashed headlight for the stationary car, apparently no damage to the handbrakeless 1.
1/2 doz Tesco employees appear, put cones round car and eventually head back to the store.
Bloke comes out 5 mins later, no one about by now, scratches head, moves cones and drives off:rotfl::rotfl:

Yes it will all be documented and on cctv but it just shows the mentality of some selfish drivers.

Sorry OP, this in no way is aimed at you
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Hi there, I have a copy of the letter in front of me (Have the original in envelope ready for posting which had some sections on the back I had to complete) - the bottom of the letter reads 'If you dispute these allegations, have no knowledge or wish to provide mitigating circumstances please provide a written explanation using additional sheets if necessary. It goes on to say that such explanations cannot be taken over the phone, and that the incident cannot be duscussed until written explanation received and the case reviewed. Failure to respond will result in the case being allocated for investigation etc.

If you have legal cover on your insurance now would be a very good time to call them, they could save you a whole host of trouble, I know what they will tell you to do with that letter, but I would hear it from them.
Advice issued on here is mainly by moral compass and as morals are a personal thought, I would obtain some legal advice about what appears to be a impending legal situation.

If you had hit his car as he claimed then there should be paint residue from your car on his car and paint residue from his car on your car. If there is no residue then the two vehicles did not hit each other. If the Police go on about it ask them if a SOCO was called out to take evidence. If one wasn't then what evidence do they have which shows that the two vehicles came into contact?

If it is your word against his then there is nothing to worry about.

Fine, in that case, do nothing and wait to see IF they choose to investigate. At that point you'll have your opportunity to dispute the allegation.

A simple letter stating that no accident took place and the other party is a dishonest chancer who is trying it on.

Yes, I agree, the only thing you have to be careful of is the failure to respond, seems to be taken as an admission of guilt:A
