How to get a bed & mattress from Nottingham to Gloucester ...

easy

other than by hiring a van, or paying a flaming fortune.
My mum is desperate to replace her bed, she lives in gloucestershire.
We have a virtually unused single bed, and we want to get rid to use the room as a study, we are in Nottingham
Bed won't fit in our car, I can't hire a van as I only drive automatics, and hubby currently has a very painful broken foot, so can't drive a manual either.
I'm assuming a "man with a van" will want to charge about a £1 per mile ? Its a 260 mile round trip.
I'm beginning to think it's just going to be easier to ebay our bed, and send mother out to buy a new one, but that seems a bit wasteful, if you see what I mean. Especailly as she does like the bed we have to get rid of.
Anyone?

Cant your mum just hang off for a.few weeks until your oh is better, then you can go visit her and take the bed, too? It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

It's me that's impatient, I want the space that the bed is taking up.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
Why not check how much man with a van would cost: you may be pleasntly suprised (or not - I have no idea)
Or try a small courier company so pick up when nearish you on another journey and no return costs involved? Cost me about £60 to get an arm chair from an ebay seller ion B'ham to the south cost 2 yrs ago.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
You should only have to pay per loaded mile, so one way. A company we use at work I would expect to charge about £150 max for that job for a same day delivery.
How about getting it sent by a company like TNT / DHL. It would need to be well packaged first, but that would be the cheapest option.0 -
this may sound like a daft question.... but is it a Divan bed or a one that's a frame that can be taken apart?
If you know someone with an Estate car they may be able to get a frame and mattress in (not sure about a divan though), otherwise have you got any friends that would be willing to drive a hired van?0 -
Could you get a roof rack for your car ?Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Do try and post on Shipley or AnyVan websites, these are places where drivers can pick up back drops to help fill their vans especially if they are already doing the journey and are highly competitive you could get a really cheap price for it.0

Is it not cheaper to just buy a new bed and get it delivered?
Seriously, how much is it worth compared to the costs of transport?
Then you can freecyle or ebay the one there with buyer collects.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I'm going from Derby to Cardiff on Friday in my camper - I'm sure we could come to some arrangement...If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
