Not very practical really seeing as they are in a relationship and baby on the way!

"Sorry I cant drive you to the hospital to delivery our baby because we couldnt afford the insurance for me on a 3.0 litre BMW and the people on MSE forums think I shouldnt be ALLOWED to drive for a while to teach me a lesson!"

    :rotfl:

They will either buy the car they want and pay the insurance or compromise on what they can actually afford.

I think the poster meant it would be better to save a bit of money....

The fact that its inconvenient is not the issue. What if he were banned during this time? Would you suggest that banned drivers be allowed to drive at 'important' times like this?

Unfortunately, he got banned and its his problem to sort out insurance. Whether OP chooses to insure him and pay a lot is up to her.

But personally I think a DUI ban should be for longer anyway...

If you're car is that important too, dont drink and drive. Simple.

IN and a DR code? No insurer wants the business. You'll get quotes but every single one will be a "We don't want your business" quote. You won't really find one that is much less than mid four figures.

I'm wondering whether to just renew my insurance with Direct Line till Jan/Feb and then look for another insurer as he will have his licence back then so it will be easier to get quotes. Does anyone know how this will affect my no claims? I know that the 1 or 2 months I'm with direct line wont be counted but will I still keep my 4 years to carry over to the new insurer?

    Thanks :)

That is your only real option. You will keep the 4 years. Personally, I'd not want such a knob named on my insurance. I'd make them take out their own because when they have an accident, it'll be your NCB you lose. The fact you have a baby on the way isn't a reason for him to drive - many women who cannot drive manage to get to hospital to have their baby.

I got insured at £1076 for a 1.6l petrol. Original quote was £7,000.

I meant nothing of the sort by my post - The court has already handed out the ban, I have no opinion on the matter (unlike many others who seem pretty judgemental). He is, of course, allowed to drive again having served his ban. I have no problems with that, unlike many insurance companies.

I just think that the OP needs a reality check. There's nothing to stop her having the car she wants - she just won't be able to name her partner as a driver because his ban means he will be all but uninsurable.

Oh, and one assumes that before car ownership was common, or those who god fobid don't own cars nowadays, somehow manage to get to hospital to give birth.

We know. We also suspect you were economical with the truth, especially regarding business use.
