BF has had his hours dropped, will he entitled to anything?

My boyfriend has just been told that his hours are going to drop on 1st March. At the moment he works 30 hours a week and it will be going down to 10 hours a week. He lives in a rented flat with a 16 year old student daughter who is receiving the £30 per week grant. He has no partner living with him (I'm 180 miles away).

I've just looked on the entitled to website and it says he will have to go onto JSA, CTB and HB. Is that right? Can he not claim for the 16/17 year old daughter?

I am no expert but would he not recieve income support for his daughter as she is still in full time education, also what about child tax credit.

Just random of the top of my head suggestions.

No I don't think so. I think once they turn 16 it's JSA. But I might be wrong???

I would have thought IS for him, CTC for his daughter, and the 10 hours bar £20 (permitted work) taken off the IS amount, then the usual HB and CTB

Why would he not be able to get another job in the next 5 weeks? That should give him plenty of time to make applications.

As he's a single parent what about him finding a job for at least 16 hours a week OR a job for at least 6 hours a week to go with his 10 hours one (totalling 16 hours). Then he *could* claim WTC and CTC. Have a play with figures on this site www.entitledto.co.uk

I say could cos I wasn't aware CTC and WTC stopped once a child passed 16 I thought it was if they were in full-time education. But I'll have a google and see if I can find anything of relevance.

Yes thats how I understand it too. Plus she's in full time education so she's not available for work.

According to this he can still receive CTC and WTC if his child is between 16 and 18 in education, just scroll down for the info
