How to get the kids to switch off the lights!
Comments

My dad used to take money out of my pocket money if i left anything on!!
It soon taught me!0 -
wait until kids are in bed, give it 30 mins for them to have snuggled down....
then go in lights on, make them get out of bed to switch everything off, and once they have done that, watch them get back in bed... then tell them to switch the lights off... means getting out of that warm bed again..
couple of days of this they might get the message0 -
My child is too young at the moment but I am playing around with an idea where her allowance will include a portion for rent, food and bills. I could then adjust her utilities bills upwards and down again when she became more energy aware.
Or I could act like NPower and the like and arbitrarily impose a 20% increase for no apparent reason !0 -
I would confiscate chargers for ipods and electrical cables for xboxes etc. Lights would be switched off at the fuse box or bulbs removed until they learn to turn them off.
Unfortunately I have a husband who thinks nothing of going upstairs for a shower and to get ready for work and leave the TV, freeview and lights on until he comes back. At which point the turns them off and leaves for work. Oh well, at least the sofa was entertained for a while0 -
The worst culprit in this house is my husband. I thought it was my boys leaving the downstairs light on all night. Both boys are currently away at uni and the light is still left on. He also thinks nothing of just going out and leaving the tv on talking to itself.0

I like the idea of using the fuseboxWho wants to wake their landlady up when the loud music mysteriously stops at 3am?

I always have to turn lights off, I do it automatically as I come out of a room now and often turn a light off then hear "mum put it back on" when I've forgotten someone is in there.
My ex was worse than the kids though, the first thing he had to do whenever he came in was switch the TV on and quite often it would sit on the menu screen whilst he read the paper but as soon as I turned it off he'd shout "I was watching that"
He also used to have a bath (leaving the immersion on all day) then sit around wearing only shorts with the heating and fire on full. If he left the heating on at night I had to wait till he was asleep then sneak down and turn it off.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
I was going to suggest the magical reduction in pocket money also0

Not much help, but this thread reminds me of the communal hall light in the flats where I used to live. It had a push-in switch and it flicked itself off after about a minute or two. If we were stood in the hallway talking to my neighbour we used to have to keep pushing the light switch back on or we'd be in darkness! I've never seen this before or since! I'm guessing the landlord didn't want to be saddled with a huge leccy bill for the communal hallway.
For the people whose teens are blaring out loud music, how about getting them a good set of headphones for xmas :rotfl:0
