  • Morning, sad to say we completely failed on the financials. Didn't sort the study at all. However, DS is away tonight and dinner is already made (beef goulash in SC). Hopefully we can do an hour before dinner, then crack on afterwards as well.

It's been a mad weekend but we have achieved tons.

One major irritation, Mr T has still not been paid  I am guessing there must have been a problem as he works for a large corporation and it's not happened before. It does mean that I will have to move part of my salary out of savings back to joint account as the mortgage goes out tomorrow. He's going to make some calls this morning to figure out what's happened.

This week will mainly find me ironing :o

Lunch today is a tin of soup and fruit. I'm in the office all day and it's going to be a busy one.

I hope everyone has some sun although looks like Scotland has been hit by a huge amount of rain.

    Best wishes Tilly x x x

Ouch, yes, hope that gets sorted.
Loads accomplished, sadly still lots to do. I don't understand why the amount of jobs doesn't reduce. Mr T and I were talking about it yesterday evening. Having two dogs does increase the workload as they shed their fur which needs vacuuming regularly.

Sounds like you've got the jobs well in hand today, but I had to bold this little bit - I feel exactly the same! If I didn't know that I live on my own, I'd swear my partner wasn't pulling his weight :rotfl:

    Karma - we need a wife :D.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Thanks Tilly, I am now on page 269 and have picked up a lot of brilliant ideas which I have kept a note off.

I think one of the most interesting things I have picked up from your diary is how it is very much a team effort between you and your husband. Mr R is a wonderful person and I wouldn't swap him for anyone but he is definitely not yet in the MFW mindset! He has never been great with money as in whatever he has in his pocket he will spend. The great thing is he knows this and asked way back when we combined our finances that he just got his pocket money in cash and all the rest of our money and his salary etc come into accounts he doesn't have access to. However, that does not stop him expecting us not to cut leisure/entertainment/eating out spends as they come from the joint house fund. He very much does not see the mortgage as a real debt and therefore thinks of us as not being in debt. I guess most people outside of the MSE world think like that but it means he does not really see why one would push to pay it faster.

I have in the last few months been keeping very separate pots for things but as he is not interested in finances never really going in to detail with him but I am wondering if it would be useful to agree the entertainment budget together with him and then two weekend later when he wants breakfast out both days I can discuss it with him in terms of what we had budgeted and therefore what we would choose not to do to allow us to have that second breakfast out or whatever. It sounds like what you do as a family from your last christmas outing example if I have picked it up right? Was there anything you think that helped Mr T in that year before you seriously started your MFW ways to focus his mind?

Anyway, sorry to waffle on. Thanks again for a brilliant diary.

  • Hi Roubaix, I think the biggest single mind changer for Mr T was showing him in black and white how much we would save by OPing, in terms of interest, years.

Seeing the 000s that you save and knowing its money that you won't have to hand over to the banks to contribute to their profit is very thought provoking. It really makes you stop and think.

I really do wish you well and it is easier if both sides of the relationship are tackling the journey together. Not that it can't be achieved if your OH is not motivated, it just means conversations are different, as well as actions.

    Best wishes, Tilly x

OK, I am officially a muppet.

Do bear in mind that Mr T has moved jobs and I had to move money for DD when she was paid, so I have multiple pay days in my head :o

Mr Ts payday is tomorrow :o

A very embarrassed Mrs T is going to go to bed now as I think I'm over tired :rotfl:
