I am with you on the decluttering. Now...to find half the energy that you have!

I watched hoarders on tv ... My home can be a mess sometimes but never like anything like that, it's scary how some people live

If I was to come for coffee and you apologised for stuff all over my response would be, "don't be daft I've come to see you, not your house Hun"
I'm a bit of a hoarder and I've found the people who matter don't mind and the people who mind don't matter! :)
    Couldn't agree more :)

I also need to declutter (I expect most people do). We had people in to measure for carpets the other day and I thought they would have the digital reader, but no came with a good old fashioned tape measure. I was slightly embarrassed at the clutter we had pushed to the sides of the rooms.
That happened to me years with the kids stuff - looked like a charity shop at the end of a Saturday
Gawd, I seriously need to declutter. I spent £1000 on having lovely wood flooring put down (70% off retail price - bargain) and I can't see it because of all the boxes of "stuff" that take up so much space.
I've seriously got Hoarder Syndrome. I keep everything - it's embarrassing when folk call for coffee. LOL

Just do a room at a time and see how much better you feel - it is such a relief. Still more to do really, but I guess round 2 will be more difficult.

Mr T and I were chatting about energy tonight - I don't have anywhere near the energy I had which is quite frustrating :o

  • Hi Tilly,

I totally agree about clutter making you feel weighed down. I have made a start at decluttering (and my airing cupoard is still pristine!) but there is still STUFF everywhere. I just want to get rid of it, but it is such hard work.

Children's art projects are my current difficulty. What on earth to do with the lovingly-made creations of four small children. Maybe those of you with older children can advise! Currently they are in four large, teetering piles in my laundry room, taking up space. Most of the paintings / models are recycled before they even make it into one of the piles, but there are so many "special" things that I can't bear to get rid of. I'm sure the children won't thank me for it, so I need to find a better way!

I watch those programmes too El. I think some of them are more lazy and CBA than hoarders. There was one on the other day-filmed in USA, the lounge was about a foot + high with empty Pepsi boxes and their equivalent of environmental health said they had the worst infestation of cockroaches he had ever seen! Their was rubbish everywhere and the mum and kids just carefully climbed over it-it was gross.

Brilliant that the kids ironed their own clothes Tilly. :T

Morning CA, I was exactly the same as you for years, then a friend suggested that I put a scrap book together (one each) and just take photographs of their hand made treasures, put some words in about what they were working on and why, if they knew, and date. The kids now have a book each, in their keepsake boxes in the loft. It's up to them whether they bin the book, or keep it. At least I don't have to keep everything.

I do though, have Christmas tree decs that they made when they were tiny, that still go on the tree - only 2-4 and I don't think they will be binned :)

Hi, yes the photos idea is nice. Have to say though I seem to adopt a random approach of collect, put up on wall, bin ...they increasingly make stuff eg. Writing Stories, on the PC, so that helps....

Mrs T..you have inspired me to to do decluttering on my day off. I need to and it'll be easier if its just me in the house. I will also see about selling the iPad 1 and the old phone .

    Have a good weekend

  • Shopping is all done, scanned and sent to SS and put away. DD was at work extremely early today but at least she will be earning her overtime. Dogs have had a long walk but for the whole way we were waiting for the heavens to open. Thankfully we arrived home before it started.

I even managed a Fly Lady gardening session - 15 mins and now it's pouring with rain. I love being outside and as I'm not great at doing nothing, I can happily sit and read book after book, if the weather is good. In fact, I'm a different person in the heat and turn from being quite manic and working like a loony, to being relaxed and peaceful.

We have a load of decorating to do, and not a lot of time to do it in. Before my LBM I would have had the decorators in, and not given a thought to the cost. I'm tempted though, to get a quote as I really don't see how we will have the time. What would be ideal, is to have it done whilst we are on holiday and then the animals aren't in the house :o.

Off to London this afternoon to treat Mr T for Father's Day.

I need a toothpaste glitch as I've almost run out.

    Best wishes Tilly x

To be honest, I think any further decorating done in our flat is going to be done by professionals, we'll just need to have the money in hand before anything gets done.

The woman who owned the flat before us did much of her own decorating and it is cowboy-tastic. For example, walls that are in a ropey condition and probably needed a skim of plaster have just been covered with lining paper. We, in turn, painted over her paint (on the lining paper) and the finish looks a bit carp.

We were too impetuous when we bought, anyone more discerning would probably see our (theoretically) redecorated flat and think "I'll need to redecorate the entire place" :o
