Ahh cheers Tilly that is deff a good way to do them, we tend to do ours differently ... I mark mine up in an app as we go along and keep a wee eye on it, if I feel it's getting too much through the month I mention it to mr el ( it tends to always be shopping that I mention for some reason) I then just let it run on till the next month

I tend to sit down once a month and draw up a new budget for the next month and then once I'm happy I show mr el ... He finds budgeting boring, but does seem to understand the concept of " we only have £30 for x,y,z " and does try to stick to it

Your way is much more professional tbh ... Mine is just thrown together with sticky tape and crossed fingers and hope that it works

If I knew how to do spread sheets I could see becoming obsessed though ... Maybe it's a good thing I don't
  • Finances as a couple is something I can only dream of. Mr MM glazes over quicker than you can say 'budget'! Basically he gets pocket money. I handle the rest on a spreadsheet. He knows nothing - mwah ha ha ha ha!

Mr GG pays enough attention to say I'm robbing him blind (we have separate money) :rotfl:. I think he's taking me for a ride :(. All in all we're probably even stevens and I like having control of the spreadsheets :T.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I would be happy to have a man who does finances jointly, like Tilly's, or one who would trust me to deal with it all, like MM's. I'm fine as I am, not having one at all. What I am very glad I have NOT got any more is a man who discussed money, agreed on a budget, and then spent massively more than the agreed budget regardless of anything we'd talked about. :rotfl:

I think if MSE was a class I would be at the bottom

I do a rough budget for my money each month (does cover all year for this year) and I have no idea what BF does with most of his money each month

    Couldn't agree more.

I tend to bleat on about"we have no money" to DH and then bleat louder towards end of month, before getting so depressed about it we end up going out for takeaway and wine to cheer ourselves up and then moaning even more the next moning. He just listens and nods his head sympathetically (and drives to collect the takeaway ;-))

Sounds like a well trained man you have there vicky :)
  • Hello,

My ex oh was shocking with money and it caused lots of conflict. He still is rubbish so can never help out our adult children, although I do when necessary. So he still gets to act selfishly. And I thought mugs had handles....

I would still rather be me though.:D
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
