  • Hi Ammonite, it's great to see DD learning to save. She is delighted.

Lodger and friend money has arrived this morning, so both have been OPd. That's 17p under £180. Fab.

NSD today as my meet up with a friend is at her house. I am taking her a small basket of candles, but I've had that ready for weeks.

Have a great week, Tilly x

In keeping with the gardening/leafy theme of this page of your thread Tilly… I harvested the remaining marrows and dug over the area in preparation for garlic. I also observed that the cabbages have picked up from the severe munching they received a few weeks back, the Brussels sprouts look a bit scrawny but might pick up now they’re not being suffocated by marrows, the onions are already starting to show and I’m never quite sure what size the broccoli should be this time of year. Any advice on applying a gardener’s fleece cover to protect my leafy greens from frost?

No HM pizza for us this week - but a mystery pizza shop instead!

Hi MRN, I think it is time for the fleece to come on. I am not sure where you are located, but here in the NW, I have put the fleece on every night for almost 3 weeks now. We had quite heavy frost Sunday morning - had to scrape off almost an inch of frost from the windshield and all the car windows before the car could be started.

Hi MRN, sorry I couldn't respond earlier, out and about and using my phone, doesn't make for easy posting.

I use cloches in the autumn and winter to prolong the growing season. I have three types, old fashioned bell ones for individual plants, then tunnel plastic ones (around 6' long, 1.5' wide), plus smaller wider ones. Too cold to grow without some protection.

    Best wishes Tilly x

  • Morning Megela, god luck with the birthday party - making pizza sounds like a fab thing to do and I am sure they will love it. Good luck with the cleaning up though

  • Morning, NSD yesterday and I think today will be the same. Will have to do financials this evening, to catch up.

8p tidy up this morning. Getting close to payday, so will do my H@lifax switches first. Won't be long and our remaining lodger will have gone. All of us have enjoyed having lodgers. I am considering whether to start again in January and sort the tax out. The family really does work better with other people in the house and knowing that our home is back to being hours from Friday morning is great. As the kids are out 2/3 evenings, we only have one night together, so the week disappears in a flash. As we charge weekly, with two its an OP of £180 potentially. I would have to keep some aside for tax though. Much to think about.

    Have a great day, Tilly x x

  • Hi Tilly and US,

I don't have any fancy cloches but I do have fleece and a make shift poly tunnel. I didn't realise you had to take the fleece on and off - that's too much high maintenance gardening for me but no frosts in the South East yet... and I'd know if we'd had one because I've hung the washing out in the dark a couple of times in the last week!!!

Tilly - enjoy the family house back just to yourselves, you know it makes sense. I've completely gone off the idea of a lodger after having so many guests recently. Although I appreciate you don't have to entertain lodgers like you do guests, I just think the washing machine/bathroom/cleaning/respect for our new carpets & furniture issues would give me a heart attack! Plus although I moaned about the guests, I did enjoy catching up with them and we'd be limited to how long and how many could stay.

    Hi tilly,

I am an avid lurker on your diary and found out about Shop & Scan from yourself. A while ago when I first read about it I registered and I have now just recieved an invite to join with invitation pin.

Going to do that tonight as it asks not to be done on work computer, but just wondering in the meantime, do you manage to earn a lot from it and does your earning depend on how much you spend on your shopping?

  • Hi LauraWax, basically you get 1600 points a week if you ping data across and upload a receipt. You need 10000 points to get £10, so every 6-7 weeks gives you £10.

Good luck, it's really easy money. If they ask you to join other panels, then they are really worth doing.

    Best wishes Tilly x
