I need to be brave and follow your lead with the car-booting. I have actually put stuff into bags, but now they're just sitting in our bedroom taking up floor space. But you've inspired me as it feels like much less hassle than E-baying what with working out postage and worrying about people actually paying up!
Do you have any advice on pricing things for a newbie? I have a mixture of second hand stuff and some new stuff with labels on that has never been worn/used.
Thanks,

Hi Dragonrider, I don't have enough experience to give you any real advice. I would think BNWT stuff would sell on eb@y, if you fancy having a go. Household stuff went easily. I didn't price anything up before going, we just gave a price when people asked. Our main driver was to get rid of stuff but with the chance of making some money
. Part of the fun was having a laugh with people and each other
.
Good luck if you decide to put your toe in the water. Think about how you will feel to see the extra floor space in the bedroom:)

Is it weird having a lodger? My wife and I were lodgers for 3 months in London and while the family were very welcoming, it felt a bit like we were always walking on eggshells and trying to stay out of the way! The homeowner can say 'treat the place like home' as much as they like, but we found it very difficult to do.
We also experienced an *extra* lodger mysteriously appearing in the week we moved in (which we weren't told about). To be honest, we didn't mind sharing with a one child family - but a one child family + a shy and awkward American student? It certainly changed the dynamics :eek:1 -
Morning Edinburgher, we have been really fortunate with lodgers. We have a fairly relaxed household and I cook for everyone in the evenings. On the evenings when the kids aren't rushing offto sports etc, it's like a dinner with friends. It's worked out very well on both sides and we have had excellent feedback.
However, we do have a lot of room, so there is space for everyone. I also won't have two lodgers without them having met. Living under one roof as a family has its challenges, let alone bringing other people into the mix, so i think the 'meet and chat' approach seems to have worked. Plus we only take Mon-Fri lodgers, so from early Friday, until monday evening, we have the house to ourselves.
You have made me think whist writing this, from the lodger's perspective the fact that we are often out walking the dogs in the evening, quite often they have the house to themselves. That must help to stop the 'egg shell' issue
I can highly recommend it though and it's been great for the kids as well:):)

Thanks Tilly, I know the school round the corner from us does regular car boots, so I'll watch out for the next one.
The floor space is definitely a stronger motivator than the cash at the moment!
