Something similar to this was on BBC watchdog this year.

Someone used a camera in one of tescos stores for some proof of prices or some misleading price tag. He got told to stop it and it was not allowed.

Tescos then said, you could take photos in tescos stores.

I am nearly arrested for the 'crime' of doing a price check on some bottles of water

The reporter sounds a bit of a !!!!!! to me - at no point at all did it look like he might be arrested.....in fact, the police were never even called.

Sensationalistic journalism at its best

It's understandable why Tesco wouldn't want the media sniffing around their store writing down their prices. When you go to Tesco there are many genuine shoppers with lists and not once have I ever seen anybody stopped or questioned, so I wouldn't be surprised if he looked blindingly obvious to be exactly what he was -- a journalist.

Quite simply, if it's their company policy then legal or not, he should abide by the rules or leave. Yet he seems to have this sense that if its not against the law he has the right to do anything. This guys needs to jump of his high horse and re-join the rest of society.

He writes for the Guardian and we all know that you have to be on your high horse to work for them.

I'm also a little confused as to why he thinks it's in some way a 'scandal' if bulk buying isn't cheaper - four bottles of water being more expensive per bottle than three isn't exactly a story anyway, so it's a good job that he was confronted otherwise his column would have been a tragic waste of paper.

Some corporations are a little too big for their boots. Since when does 'policy' equal 'law'? If Tesco don't like someone doing something, fine. But don't pretend it's illegal.

It is known as 'shopping around'. It's one of the oldest customs for consumers. If I want to purchase things, I often shop around to make sure I'm getting the best deal.

Why? What is it that you think Tesco would like to keep hidden from the media?
