.London housing is screwed in so many ways. You only have to look at the number of posters on here complaining they can't afford a house there
yes of course the London property market is screwed, that is the promotion of BTL and massive property cos owning swathes of property.
It is also the problem of lowering wages that have nevr kept pace with rising property prices and now rampant inflation and crap savings rates are making things worse.
But hey lets blame the immigrants shall we ? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

I don't care what people say on here (e.g. both parents were bog cleaners but could still afford to buy a four bed roomed house in Chelsea when they were 18 years old) it has been expensive to buy in London since Adam was a lad.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

Epic Fail.
I'm an economically right of centre, small state advocating, Conservative voter with socially Libertarian views.
In terms of political philosophy I'm somewhere between Maggie Thatcher and Ayn Rand.
How the hell did you get Marxist socialist from that???
Your "Marxist" tag has to be one of the stupidest comments on this board of all time.
Well done.
You may not be a marxist or any other kind of leftie, but as a BTL owner you sure do have a vested interest in there being a population expansion, don't you?
In which case one could argue with you until the cows came home, and you would stick to your guns, no matter how harmful a policy is to (presumably) your country. I'm all right, Jack, eh?
Well done. :T0 -

Certainly not everywhere in London – certain parts of London were perfectly affordable until about 10–15 years ago. But everywhere in London, even the most awful areas, has now been built up by estate agents as a paradise. People who can't afford a decent part of the capital have convinced themselves that their area, no matter how run-down and unpleasant, is fantastic.0 -

I grew up in London. At my school, 90% of the parents were home owners. Most of the kids were from working or lower middle class homes. They almost all lived in standard old Edwardian terrace houses which are very common in the area I grew up in. Many had a non-working mum or a mum who worked in a menial job. My best friend whose parents came here from India both worked in a factory (and the mum still works there). They bought their house in the 1980s and it is now worth over £600k.
Yes, London was always more expensive than other cities but as Sapphire says, in the last 10-15 years the London bubble has grown far more massive than anywhere else.0 -

Keep it quiet, we don't want a mass exodus
BTW I remember being shocked in 1988 when someone told me how much their 1 bedroom flat in Clapham cost , so 15 years ago is convenient but that was the bottom of the trough. What is the problem that is an old article, that ruling has surely has been changed now

No it hasn't you smug !!!!!!. It is current legislation.
Do you think polygamy is okay? Do you think that claiming benefit for 4 wives and umpteen children is okay?
Do you think that it is funny that people rape the benefit system that haven't paid a penny into it?:mad::mad::mad:0 -

But isnt that a massive assumption. How do you know "they" havent paid a penny into it? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

The problem with McTavish and his ilk is that they fulfil the definition of someone who 'knows the price of everything and the value of nothing'.
Either they do not care that the country is being ravaged, genuinely do not notice that it is, or suffer from so much cognitive dissonance that they are blind to it.0
