any people who come here from Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan Congo Iran are also escaping wars. Why are your parents more important than them?

If that is true, then why did they pass all the way through various European (safe) countries to get to the UK? Surely they could have sought asylum in Spain, Portugal, Italy etc etc.

Isn't it obvious they are probably Muslims and they don't like PIIGS :)

Probably as a result of our colonial heritage.

The ones who were under the French colonial influence and speak French as a second or even first language, Algerians and that area where there is still a big French Influence, they want to go to France.

The ones who were under the British influence, and there are one heck of a lot of people who speak English, they want to come here.

Obviously the fact that the streets of London are paved with gold help too.

Must admit it always confused me as to why a significant amount of Pakistan immigrants don't speak English when it is the official language in Pakistan and supposedly taught in schools.

    Which law is this please?

    Here you go,

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/1577395/Multiple-wives-will-mean-multiple-benefits.html

    Suck it up.

"Even though bigamy is a crime in Britain, the decision by ministers means that polygamous marriages can now be recognised formally by the state, so long as the weddings took place in countries where the arrangement is legal.

The outcome will chiefly benefit Muslim men with more than one wife, as is permitted under Islamic law. Ministers estimate that up to a thousand polygamous partnerships exist in Britain, although they admit there is no exact record."

"New guidelines on income support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) state: "Where there is a valid polygamous marriage the claimant and one spouse will be paid the couple rate ... The amount payable for each additional spouse is presently £33.65."

(It was probably too hot & too much effort).

What is the problem that is an old article, that ruling has surely has been changed now ;) the govt wouldn't state one thing in opposition and turn a blind eye when in power, would they? Although they may think that it cheaper to pay the benefits than to put them up in prison for 7 years and put the children in care.
Chris Grayling, the shadow work and pensions secretary, said that the decision was "completely unjustifiable".
"You are not allowed to have multiple marriages in the UK, so to have a situation where the benefits system is treating people in different ways is totally unacceptable and will serve to undermine confidence in the system.
"This sets a precedent that will lead to more demands for the culture of other countries to be reflected in UK law and the benefits system."
Mr Grayling also accused the Government of trying to keep the ruling quiet because the topic is so controversial.

the Marxist socialist goes in search of another tag to label people.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Epic Fail.

I'm an economically right of centre, small state advocating, Conservative voter with socially Libertarian views.

In terms of political philosophy I'm somewhere between Maggie Thatcher and Ayn Rand.

How the hell did you get Marxist socialist from that???

Your "Marxist" tag has to be one of the stupidest comments on this board of all time.

    Well done. :)

I don't care. The end effect is the same.

It's been well reported the inabilities of the authorities to count just how many immigrants we have here. This inability predates the cuts.

Of course, when the good times were rolling, no one really cared. Someone claiming thousands in rent when they have the skills of a bog cleaner? Sure, why not. Rents rising in London ? Hey, sign of a high value premier Capital isn't it.

But alas now we can't afford it, and all those mismanaged chickens are coming home to roost.

London housing is screwed in so many ways. You only have to look at the number of posters on here complaining they can't afford a house there.
