Pearla*Merle wrote: »Hello! I've been lurking for an age, but thought I'd pipe up re: the art stuff!
You've probably already found all this, but in case you haven't... (all I did was google image search it...)
I found: this is apparently an image of that particular painting (I wasn't sure if you had a copy??) plus a few of his others, just scroll down. And an interesting telegraph article & also a Financial Times article, random. That seems to be the best stuff. It's probably worth trawling google images though, clicking on pictures through to the websites to see what other information you can gather? I hope the library helps, though can see that being a case of sitting for hours and flicking through a mountain of books just to find a few paragraphs on him! (Hopefully not though!)
I'd never come across him before, am glad I did! A whole new worldIt seems a bit ridiculous to give her a really obscure painting and expect her to find out about though?! There is basically nothing on the internet about that picture, the mind truly boggles. I don't quite know what they expect you to do re: finding out all the background for it - write to his family and ask for his diary excerpts around the time it was painted?? I think this might have to be a bit of a case of writing things like "His influences seem to be.../I think he is trying to show by way of doing such & such that..." and basically give her opinion on it? Draw on what you can find out about his other work and help flesh out her essay from there? Thank god my teachers never did anything like this to me(!).
PS. Good luck with getting your money back from those clients. I'm self employed as well and had money malarky at the start of the year too. Thankfully a threat of taking it to court forced them to cough up! Also, now I'm here..! Hope all the back pain stuff has settled down. Occasionally mine flares up in that kind of 'can do nothing but lie here, second to second, screaming/whimpering' way, so you had my utmost sympathies through all of that!
PPS. Can relate to the nonsense people spout about what an easy life working from home must be. I've started retorting in quite a clipped manner if they dare to make stupid comments, I just decided I would give as good as they gave, as people who basically want to make digs at me probably aren't worth my time at the end of the day. Their loss and better to develop healthy relationships with the people that value you. It's hard to deal with the under-the-surface attitude some people give off though, when you can never quite call them on it. Argh.
To end on a happy note - Rice Pudding = yum! x
Must apologise, I somehow managed to miss this post of yours earlier, I only saw the one about the PJ's. :rotfl:
I wish I had seen it earlier as I would have checked out the info you gave me, but thankyou so much for going to all that trouble. I will look and read again properly tomorrow.
We have googled for hours and found nothing. I am a bit of a champion googler, well known within our family and friends for finding everything and anything on google , but I'm ashamed to say John Piper defeated me this time. I found lots of info on him personally but not this particular painting.
It's pretty late now, it's been a long day so will update in the morning on Dear John Piper and the Evenings Events and will answer you properly.
But it's lovely to see you on the diary .:

Well good morning everyone.:D
Well last nights Smelly Old Sock dinner was eventful but actually rather tasty, and as it was made entirely from items lurking in the fridge and cupboards it will become a regular meal I think . Having frozen our bits off in the rain at the stables it was very tasty to come home to served with some warm crusty bread !
DD2 rode well, the stables have been taken over and gone posh since we were last there and the prices have increased, so we could be looking for another stables, although DD2 loves it there so I am reluctant to change really.
We went from there to the Docs at about 7 for a checkup on the back. He has decided unfortunately to refer me back to the surgeon , as I have been in a bit of a pickle again recently, but we will see what that brings. Its still quite early days in my opinion since the op so I am sure things will improve.
DD1 began her John Piper Painting last night, I think its great, she is very disappointed with it, but as I pointed out it is meant to be her interpretation of the painting not an exact replica. Pearla Merle , I have clicked on the links thank you. We did have a copy of the photo but I hadnt actually found the page you gave me, so that was great thankyou. We had seen the FT and Telegraph information which tells us qute alot about him and his influences, but I agree that its strange to give her a pretty obscure painting and try and find out why he painted it. She spoke to her art teacher yesterday and explained the difficulties ,so she has been told she can just write about John Piper and his influences instead rather than just that particular painting. If I get time today I will pop to the library incase I can find anything else for her.
Plan for today is work, hoovering, ordering of new school shirts, DD2 still growing and only has 2 that fit , the others had to be thrown so I am washing them out each night and the situation is getting a little desperate.I have ordered via Quidco with 10% cashback . There is £40 owing to me in Quidco and another £46 pending so that will go in the Xmas pot along with all the other bits and bobs.
Listings didnt end on ebay last night I got that wrong, they finish this evening. Will probably only make about £10 but thats £10 we didnt have before.
Another busy evening, dance classes and DD1 having a sing song at a pub. I am hoping Mr Pinot will be home in time to come with me to watch her . I have a babysitter for DD2 as she has been exhausted since starting secondary school and I think it will be too late for her, plus she has a mountain of homework to do.
So thats my day, hope you all have a good one xLBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

I ws hoping to have paid off £20,000 from this Debt Mountain by the 30th September but its not to be unfortunately
. We were due to be paid yesterday and some of that money was going to pay that last chunk, but it wont actually show in the account until Tuesday, so I will pay it then.
I have this habit of setting myself little goals be it money related or how much I can cram into a day. Its annoying to set these goals with myself and then they dont work, but I should be greatful we have made such a big in road in such a short space of time, so I have no right to complain really .:o
Nothing much to report, the girls still keep on needing things, had to pay out another £40 yesterday to the school, we have dance shows for the next few weekends and bits and pieces are needed for those so it seems a never ending spend up at the moment. I am trying to do everything as cheaply as possible, but I am beginning to wonder if there will be any let up.
Our CASHflow statement that was sent to the creditors back in December is now very out of date. I can review it and make the relevant changes but it will leave less money to go to the predators. I am in two minds what to do. We are still managing to pay the Predators the agreed figures, by playing around with the food budget. They are all being very good and very quiet, so do I continue as we are and not upset the apple cart, or review the figures to give a true reflection of our outgoings ? We would then make them lesser offers each month, it would make things easier with Christmas coming etc and the fact the girls are growing so much and seem to need something every day be it new underwear or something on their feet or school trips , reference books etc . For example DD1 has another vocal exam £53 , there is nothing in the budget allocated for that, so I will need to be inventive with the food budget to accomodate that payment. I am sure many reading may thing its a luxury that we shouldnt even be entertaining given the situation, but one thing I have never wanted is for this to affect the girls or the things they love to do. We have scaled lots of things back, singing is twice a month for her, DD2 rides once a month and sings once a month and we pay for dance classes but not as many as we used to.
My gut intstinct is to carry on muddling along and not upset the apple cart with the predators ?
Any thoughts much appreciated, thankyou !LBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !
