Agency can't put you forward as you aren't working?

reply today from an agency that I sent my CV to for a job with a large restaurant co in London where the company only want to interview people who are working!
Have you taken temp roles? There's a HUGE market for temps right now, because companies haven't the confidence to employ full-time at the moment. At least that would get you back into work. You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -
I give up - there is no reasoning with you.
As they can all see by my pasty white skin I have been laying on a beach in Barbados!0 -

I actually found temping roles difficult to get too. Agencies have told me that the temp side of things is also quiet at the moment - I don't know if that is just the time of year?
Seriously Lady Miss A, you have to start thinking positive. We all know it's difficult but you may be sending those vibes to potential employers without even realising it.0 -
I am applying for temp/contract/temp to perm/perm and min wage

And what about just day-to-day temp roles, rather than contract work. Sign up with Office Angels or a similar agency. They have 'on call' temps sat in their office each morning, ready for when a client calls needing someone at short notice. Admin / secretarial / accounts clerk stuff usually. I've had to use them in the past when our receptionist has called in sick, and I've used them to provide purchase ledger and sales ledger cover at period end for a day or two.You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -

Yes, I expect its a very regional thing, but here in South Wales there doesn't seem to be enough temps, and I'm surprised its not the same in London where LadyMissA is.
This time of year, the need for temps can be greater as who has time to recruit in one of the busiest periods? You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -
reasoning? I am stating a fact. People are discriminated against because they are not working so how is anyone expected to get a job and the same old same old question I have been getting since month 1 is 'what have you been doing'.
As they can all see by my pasty white skin I have been laying on a beach in Barbados!
Nobody has said that it isn't difficult. But all we ever get when we try to say something positive to you is the old "woe is me" routine. It isn't the fault of pregnant women that you are unemployed - how on earth does it help your situation to complain that you would have been better off pregnant or coming out of prison. And if you are actually stupid enough to think either of those things are true then I would point out that in all likelihood you have every opportunity to see whether it is true! Get pregnant. Commit a crime and get sent to prison. See if either gets you a job.
It is bloody miserable that some employers don't want unemployed people. It's wrong that long-term unemployed people are considered to be on the scrapheap by some employers. And !!!!!! we were agreeing with you. But blaming other people for your predicament (and that was certainly implied) or thinking that you would be "better of if...." is neither rational nor helpful. I would be better off if I won the lottery. It isn't going to make it happen though. And you might have been better off if you had gone to that one day work trial because you might have actually got the job!
I know it has been said before, but it is your attitude that seems to stand in your way - you can't even bear it when people agree with you but have to go off and find someone to complain about.0 -
It never came over as you were agreeing at all
I do not have the woe is me attitude at all just hate it when EVERYONE (friends and family) tells me it's easy to get a job and it's not0
