They can't afford to contribute more to society. If they increased benefits then I am sure they would be happy to pay tax & NIC.

If benefits were increased they would not be paying tax or national insurance. They would be returning taxpayers money!.

letting your wife use your badge is fraud it is issued to you not your wife.

Yes I know it is, but what I was pointing out is that that is the most abused aspect of a blue badge. Even those of us that object to BB abuse will carry that out.

So yes it makes me an BB abuser, togther with many 1000's of others!
Besides which, it is not abuse that the council can take action on as it is being carried out on private property and not on the public highway!
Hence why I mentioned hospitals and supermarkets and did not say public roads!

There is a difference - have a read of the BB regulations.

Perhaps I'm odd but I stick 100% to the rules of blue badges and would never allow anyone to misuse mine. Its worth more to me than risk losing it even for a short time.
Can I just also point out young can be disabled too with hidden disabilities.
  • Perhaps I'm odd too. I stick to the blue badge rules, to have it taken away from me for misuse is enough to stop me from abusing it. Although, I do have to admit that I don't understand the rules 100% but if I am unsure I won't risk it.

I suspect those that are prepared to risk their badge being confiscated can't need them that badly.

Having had to leave my poor Mother in the entrance to the Hospital in her wheelchair, on her own, while I then have to drive around looking for a space to park, which sometimes took a long time. I absolutely hate people who abuse the BB.
So tottybum, what you do is exactly the same as the young girl on the Panorama programme was doing, she was using her sisters BB to park in a shopping centre.
I have lost my dear Mother now but unfortunately I have inherited her severe Arthritis and now have my own BB. But where I differ from tottybum is, my BB goes with me just like my Mothers used to go with her. It stays in my possession and is only used for me, ok if I'm out with hubby or friends they get the benefit too but only if they take me with them.

What you are suggesting is akin to the 'Hitler Youth' when they were encouraged to spy and inform on the activities of their own siblings and family. Do we actually want to go down that road?

Do I lend my wife my blue badge? Yes of course I do - who doesn't?
But she doesn't use it on the public highway, only in supermarkets, hospitals etc.

How do I know? The mechanic looks after my car and charges me that rate in cash plus the cost of any parts.

For those of you who think it's an easy life on benefits... ever tried living a normal life with your joints dislocating every time you move? Not easy at all, thanks.

There is no risk at all.

You only run the risk of it being taken from you if it is misused either on a public highway or parking.

The council have no right to inspect a blue badge if you are on private land (supermarket) or off street parking (hospital)

So why do you think I am likely to lose it?
