They don't always accept a pic of the code though as some are awkward and say they need to see the code flashing or the o2symbol moving.

. What a palaver I have trying to get the signal. It s a good job I m determined. I have to walk 5 minutes up the road to where I can pick up the wifi signal from a hot spot then run down to Halfords s ( the W H Smiths isn t much better) hoping the code s still visible and flashing, then hope there isn t much of a queue. Then if there s two items free I have to repeat it and I m no youngster lol.

I went and got the free chocs from WHSmith the other day and the guy just put them straight through as free, even without seeing my phone!

The codes have never flashed and I don't have an 02 symbol on my version of PM (using a Blackberry) so WHSmiths think I'm trying to scam them. Still trying to get some sense out of 02 regarding this since the run in I had last week trying to claim the pens.

Update! Well a nice guy from 02 finally called me regarding my emails. He agreed that yes the codes on Blackberry phones have never flashed and this wasn't made clear to WHSmiths.

The flashing part was only on WHSmiths codes and added at their request. Seems that they are having a bit of a battle with WHSmiths as thanks to people using screenshots to claim an item more than once Head Office told the stores to pull a deal but they didn't bother telling 02 they were stopping it!

Anyway the conversation ended with him adding a £5 credit to my account so I'm forgiving them for now. ;)

To be honest, I have called this 02 thing a day. I can never get a signal once I am inside the different shops and I am getting embarrassed when I finally reach the counter and the O2 application quits on me! I don't think it's worth the humilation for a few free pens, or a puncture repair kit. :o

Have to agree with you. Using this does mark you out as a bit of a saddo! :)

Why? Do you think the same of all methods of saving money - using vouchers, ordering online rather than buying in the shop, buying in the sales, choosing your mortgage based on the interest rates, etc?

Not at all. It's a balance between how much is involved and how much effort is required to get it. The point being made, I think, was that many of these O2 deals aren't worth the time and effort.

    Personal choice, of course. :)
