I have never asked to get paid other than getting the carers allowance.

But surely they could pay me a full Nat Ins stamp and then I would qualify for JSA for six months.

I dont think it is much to ask for considering I have saved the government thousands of pounds

And I stopped smoking so I COST the government an awful lot of money!! Makes the books balance.

TOTTYBUM I encounter some ignorant people but your comments are just simply ridiculous. I would like you to meet people who I know and look after disabled people and children and really find out what it is like to be a carer, until your in that situation I suggest you stop commenting and upsetting people with your untrue and unfounded facts! If carers allowance wasn't available my husband would be in the same situation!!!!!!!! Perhaps it may be worth your while getting involved with some of the people you are talking about and do what they do for just one week!!!!

I did for over 3 years, loved the work AND I didn't get paid or receive a benefit for it!!

    Ah, thank you.

So, if the person was entitled to means tested JSA, they would be able to receive it after a period of caring but because the first poster lives with someone earning a high enough level of income, they cannot claim JSA??

Then the partner is responsible for maintaining her.

Yes my partner works but frankly I do not see how that should come into it although of course it does and i cant get JSA income based.

Over the last five years I was a carer and getting £55 a week there was no one else to do it. If I had refused the government would have to have paid for his care in a home.

If that care was approx £600 per week then I have saved the government roughly £141,700.

And they wont pay me a class 1 NI Stamp !!!

You are of course entitled to earn £100 per week when you are a carer. At the minimum wage thats approx 16 hours per week, but how are you supposed to find work when caring and working allo hours anyway

Maybe if all carers threatened to go out on strike for a day/week

The government would be on its knees before the blink of an eye

As ever though it is the most disabled and needy who would suffer through not being fed and so on from carers downing tools.

I think more likely we should be writing to MPs and supporting carers groups who campaign.

Of course, you could have chosen to be employed as a carer ( relevant as you didn't care for a relative) and then you would've been paid at least NMW, paid class 1 NICs to cover you for JSA etc., and still done important and useful work.

I doubt that many people claiming CA are caring for someone who isn't a relation as this is obviously who the benefit is aimed at.

This is like me saying that as a single mum, I could have been entitled to all single parent's benefits for 7 years, but because I worked I saved the governement 100s of thousands. It doesn't work like that, it is not a saving to the government if you are doing something you should be doing anyway, but the government will provide support if you are trully in a position not being able to do so. You were, therefore it wasn't a saving for the government.

I don't understand this at all. Caring for someone close and dear is all about love and doing the right thing. It is not a form of employment that you should be paid a wage for, never mind national insurance contributions.

My wife has cared for me for years through all of my illnesses, but never expected the government to pay her to do it!

What a sorry state this country is in when people want financial compensation for just being a decent human being. In most other countries in Europe people do it as their duty!
oh here we go. My daughter was born disabled. When she was able to go to a special school, i took on a little part time job to bring some more money in. I then was told that i could claim carers allowance because i was under the earnings threshold, doing way more than 35 hours a week caring for my daughter and she was in reciept of DLA at the highest rate. We were sinking financially so i decided that although carers allowance is a pittance i would put in a claim. I have been in reciept of carers allowance for many years now and have kept them informed of all changes of circumstances. So you see, i claim it because i am entitled to it and it boosted our flagging money situation. So please DONT judge me for it.
life is what you make it, make it fun !

Seroulsy hun, dont feed tottybum who is clearly either setting out to be plain nasty and trolling or is just intrisically stupid if he/she think there is noone person in the UK who needs round the clock care.

Ignore and hopefully they will go away.
