You dont live with them for one.
You have a full time job for another.

When a carer claims carers alllowance they do NOT work full time.

You seem to be missing the point.

I'm confused. How can you be caring for your in-laws and working at the same time?

Or when you say you care for your in-laws do you really mean you ocassionally pick something up for them at the supermarket when you're doing your own shopping anyway;)

I think that that is exactly what she meant although she has now realised what we are all saying.
She obviously thought we were all wanting payment for going shopping now and then for someone whereas the reality is somewhat different.

Pay you for what? You are not a full time carer.

You seem to be misunderstanding us when we talk about carers getting paid.
These people care FULL TIME for £55. They are NOT ABLE to get a full time job elsewhere.
And, if their partner were to die or leave them, and they had trouble finding a new job quickly they would NOT be allowed to claim JSA because while they were a carer they will not have paid enough stamp.

Most people would rather contine working than get £55 a week but dont have much choice if their partners need full time care.
As I said before, its either that or have a stranger come in and bath the wife or husband etc. (Which would end up costing the taxpayer more in the end up)
