Your wife probably did care for you and very well too. I do believe that the majority of people within the confines of a marriage or lpng term relationship would care for their partner if needed.
However, some carers are doing so full time and are unable to work as well.
People have to pay bills and how do they do that if they are full time carers for someone who is ill? OK, they can go to work. Then the government would have to pay 10 times as much in order to pay for a full time nurse.
Most full time carers manage on peanuts or savings. The government could, at least, pay their stamp for them too.

But isn't that what 'Caring in the Community' is about?

My sister in law works in a care home and takes home app £200 a week, she also has rent and council tax to pay, shes not doing it for the love shes doing it for the job, why the hell should anyone get payed for looking after a relative.

I don't understand this at all. Caring for someone close and dear is all about love and doing the right thing. It is not a form of employment that you should be paid a wage for, never mind national insurance contributions.

My wife has cared for me for years through all of my illnesses, but never expected the government to pay her to do it!

What a sorry state this country is in when people want financial compensation for just being a decent human being. In most other countries in Europe people do it as their duty!

LOL at not being paid for being a carer!!!!!

What are they supposed to do for income then? And food?
Overactively underachieving for almost half a century

No carer gets £550 a week. But if a family member in some cases did not give up a full time job so that they could care for someone who is ill the government would have around that amount to pay out for nurses, carers, transportation, emergency care etc etc.

If my father did not give up his full time job to care for my mum who would do all the stuff that needs to be done for her?

Yes quack and they would also get a full time wage and probably no housing benefit or council tax benefit so a win win situation...................I love my husband and if he needed care I would do it for love not money.

What full time wage are you talking about?

A couple both work full time. Then one of them becomes very ill and disabled. Lets say its the wife. So she has to give up her job.
The husband still works and manages to juggle for a while but things deteriorate and he also has to give up work to care for her.

They are then without any full time wage. So which full time wage are you referring to?

I am sure you would care for your husband out of love, most of us would but if your husband isnt working because hes ill and you have to give up your job, what would you pay your bills with?

Noone is asking for 100's of pounds for caring but when you are in the position of caring full time and cannot work elsewhere, you still have to pay bills.

Of course, you can keep your job and have a stranger come in to bath your husband or take him out.....and that would cost the government more.
