(((hugs))) QueenB - I was getting worried about you as hadn't seen you around.
I'll join you with going back to basics ........ because ........
I bought a new (to me, not brand new) car yesterday- had another bash at getting a better deal on one of the automatics I'd tried and wangled another couple hundred for mine & a couple of wee extras :money:.
It will wipe out the savings  as was still a bit more than I really wanted to pay to change over - but I'm really struggling with gear changing now & was really worried I'd either wreak the gear box in mine or damage the engine (as have found myself trying to avoid changing gear unless I have to) - so it really was a needed change IYKWIM.
Will mean the SOA needs to be stripped even more (don't know if that's actually poss) so I can pay myself back and I may have to venture into the OD  for a while.
Still hoping I can technically call myself DF as I will still have more in the pots (sorry Mort!) than the amount of the OD (just didn't want to wipe them out too as would really struggle to get them up and running again as it's been a hard slog to get them going as it is!)
Will be hunting around for insurance today - not sure if I'll just change my current policy (£25 cost ) until renewal, or just cancel it (£25 cost:mad:) if I find a much better deal.
The only advantage I can think of just changing over is that it's only 3 months until renewal date & I'll then have another years NCD - whereas if I take a new policy now - I take it I'll lose this years (as will effectively be starting a new years with the same number of NCD that I had last year). Does that make any sense at all!:oGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

It's been an interesting week.
We came home to a smallish damp patch in the kitchen ceiling, at a point without a water source above it. Plumber arrived next afternoon found leak in a CH system pipe then isolated and drained system. Next morning pipes were replaced and CH system (and hot water) restored.
Luckily the leak was small so there was no gush of water, but judging by the staining on the joists it's been going on for some time.
We now have a smallish hole in the ceiling and the floor up upstairs. Just waiting for insurance company to approve repair quote from builder.
Nil desperandum.....;)Proud to have dealt with my debts, became debt free on 03/11/2011. Repaid £54,723.41 LBM May 2006.

This thread just seems to have died a poor death
I haven't written on here for 6 weeks... How did that happen??
So DD is nearly 9 months old, we've lived in our new house 3 months now and life is finally settling down
Just spent £1k on a new garage roof, which is a relief since last week the water in the garage got into the electrics, which cost me £50 via my insurance for an emergency callout, and I have a temporary fix. Now I have to get an electrician in to get the lights and electric fixed in the garage, and get my cables cased and buried in the garden... but this all means a new fuse box! So we are saving again!
I got a few great deals for DD from a 2nd hand clothes shop I found
And I finally started eBaying my stuff to earn money, I got nearly £15 for 1 jumper this week, so I am best pleased
We are being very careful with our food shopping and finally got that back on track and sticking to budget. We noticed that after emptying the freezer it's so easy to get carried away to refil it...
This weekend a friend gave me 2 big bags of fruit... I spent 3 hours peeling and chopping today, I have 4 bags of apples (1200g) and 1 bag of pears (350g) in the freezer ready for putting into cakes... I made a pear cake and I also made 3 jars of Apple Mousse (1500g of apples required) which is like a puried apple with sugar and cinnamon... I grew up with it and my children love it
3 weeks ago I made onion chutney...
I have also gotten my sewing machine out, and made DD a bag (with button holes) and patching up DS Jeans...
I'm becomming all domesticated
Finally meeting people in my community, we found a church we like, and a baby group we like (I have been asked to lead the singing, which is fun) and DD is making baby friends, while DS is enjoying school, playing Rugby and being team captain in the Tornaments
Moneywise, we found we spent so much when we moved in, that we have to really cut back, so DH and I have managed to cut back our spending and we are focusing on ways to mend and make do more...
So things have finally settled down, and we feel more in control... we are trying hard to have a focus, after buying the house our 'savings' goal was no longer and we've had trouble saving and not spending. But we are getting it back slowely...
A few weekends ago we made use of The Times off to visit a National Trust place for free, and recently we got 'incentive' from our back and as we are going to visit my Gran in Yorkshire soon, we have booked 1 night in a very cheap hotel outside of york so we can take DS to see the National Train Museum (Free Entry) and we are using MrT Vouchers to have dinner at a Nice Pizza Place...! We have found a very cheap parking place, and somewhere to have breakfast cheaper then litt!echef! I feel like our frugal ways are coming back
I love it here, my children are really thriving here
Anyway, I hope everyone is well...We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240
