Bib how sweet, dating can be so much fun, being frugal about it is just common sense
Last night we boarded up the upstairs banister, its with polycarbonate so the cat is really confused! but DD can't get through the gaps anymore
I got most my deposit back from my flat (minus £75) which is going towards a garage roof, had a few quotes, got a 5% discount through DH work
Have been watching superscrimpers with DH, its great... did you know you can put spring onions in a glass of water and they grow? i did it last night and i have 6 new shoots! Lol very mse

Not been on for ages but thought I would post a bit of an update. Well 8 months on and we are enjoying our debt free life . We have managed a 2 week holiday in Mexico and got another booked for October. All paid for, it is a great feeling .
Still watching what we do , no way will we go back to old habits , but also feel no need to get over cautious now. Got a nice savings account creeping up nicely. Hope you are all doing well and will pop on to catch up again xxJanuary

hey folks!
so baby was born 8th aug at 9.38am, he's lovely and DD is really enjoying being a big sister. We decided to call him Zac.
just before going into hospital, my laptop again exploded, well didn't quite explode really just stopped working, but it made my heart explode as my spreadsheet was on it -again!!! thankfully I had just backed the spreadsheet up but I was left for about 4 wees without a means of updating my spreadsheet!!!!
so had a bit of 'me' money saved and was feeling guilty about spending it on me so I feel a good compromise was to invest in a tablet to update my spreadsheet - which is really an investment for the whole family!:-)
hope everyone is well? and sticking the their MSE ways - I'm managing to stay out of the baby shops - so far!!!!! lol

Hi everyone!
Newly DF here!:j I don't have to tell you how fabulous it feels!
I'm feeling a bit lost now though, and I'm going to try and make some goals for the rest of this year. I've managed to clear my debt (and hubster's) whilst we've only been on one salary. This was mainly thanks to a DMP which I wouldn't let myself change, so I just learned to go without or make-do. I don't think that will ever change; I'm totally addicted to charity shopping and selling on e*ay!
Any ideas for goals? We're trying to save for a deposit, but I also need a new (for me!) car and we don't have an emergency fund.
Oh, and I still have a phobia of opening bank statements and checking my balance. Anyone else???

Hello nicp60 it does feel good, and congratulations on clearing the debt:T. I think you have listed 3 goals to start off with.
No phobia about opening bank statements but Mrs Mort is amused by my insistence on keeping a float in the current account. She on the other hand has been getting wound up this last week or so because an unrecognised London number is ringing her mobile (which used to be mine), she says it's like when the creditors were on the phone all the time.Proud to have dealt with my debts, became debt free on 03/11/2011. Repaid £54,723.41 LBM May 2006.

Congratulations nicp60 that's excellent news :T its brilliant isn't it? I also felt like it was a bit of an anti-climax as well, but thankfully over time it h:Ts been the gift that has kept giving
I continued to save, but treated myself to a few bits that had been on hold, still sourced them as frugally as possible though! And we went on a couple of holidays, Morocco, Spain and this year Thailand for 2 weeks :T we eased up on the budget a bit to allow more for socialising but continued to save.
I have some exciting/scary news :j:eek::j we have put an offer on a house and it has been accepted, right now just waiting for the surveys etc. We will plummet right back into debt as we are borrowing £5k off of oh's dm to help with fees and some renovating costs :T very exciting stuff.
Weirdly going into debt this time feels v different, we have planned it, worked out we can afford it and will pay her back at £200pm over 2 years (obviously more if we can)
This is now meaning another change in jobs is likely for me. This year I took a step down in roles as I wanted less stress, less travel as I have some family stuff that takes up a lot of my time and is stressful. But now I am again looking to go into higher roles and am applying for positions in London - where the salaries for the work I do are considerably higher than where we live although commutable. I'm thinking it'll be worth it to pay off the mortgage quicker fix it up and sell it on
Oh by the way managed to rescue the spreadsheet - my oh is fantastic! :ADF as at 30/12/16
