SOT: I couldn't leave my dog for 2 days so well done on the 5! they know how to get to us dont they!!

Lea: yes, pregnancy is going better now. sorry to hear your not feeling very well from your op. and just because you are debt free doesn't mean that you dont have other worries. I suppose what you need to do is put it in perspective and remember how fab the day was when you became debt free, take a deep breath and then look at your deposit as a challenge not as the same burden your debt was. keep your chin up x
Congrats on the insulation :) they came around me a couple of months ago and I said to the guy before he came in "did it cost anything" to be told a resounding "no".

rant warning Nearly an hour later  after him checking the insulation depth in the loft (apparently the houses no longer meet min standards), going through the paperwork, we came to the "what benefits do you get" question ...... errrr "none" and I was then told that I'd have to pay for it!

Sorry, but surely single people / couples who work & many of whom have very little disposable income after all the bills are paid have just as much right to live in a warm house / benefit from savings on our heating bills  - sorry but the whole "system" (whether education or things like this) is just beeping ridiculous.rant over:o (again!)

Rant, I mean Rising (!): I was approached ages ago and as I am not on any benefits and both me and OH work full time, we were told that it would cost £blah, so I told the guy to go and run up my humph!

A few weeks ago, a friend got insulation from a company and was told it was free. And it was, so she gave me the companies number, we contacted them, they came out and I quizzed the guy at least 50 times (OH was mortified!) about it being free!! He assured me it was and the reason it was this time was due to "their numbers being low" and "grants from the Govt". So what I took from this was that these companies maybe got grants or will get more grants based on uptake of this Govt initiative, so because a lot of people like us were not paying for it, they are having to "give it away".

Just today I had another company at the door offering insulation for free! Rising, why not contact the company again and see if they can do it for free?

By the way, I love your rants, Rising!

Ohhhhhh, will do, ta & fingers crossed - I've seen some ads where if you live in village x it's free for everyone but if you live in village y you still have to pay ..... absolutely ridiculous!

Our Lab does eat anything and has done for the last eight years, unfortunately his digestion is not what it once was. It looks like he can't have turkey based food, if he does the air is fowl!:o

Lea Thanks, Eliza does seem to love darker colours... but my Avitar is old now... I must update it as she is growing...

As to feeling under the weather ((hugs)) you have to take yourself some 'me time' and relax some... and take some money from the savings and blow it!

Rising isn't it just the way? When DS was 3 weeks old I ended up in a cast from hip to ankle... DS dad either worked or slobbed about at home, and I needed help! Ends up that because I WASN'T on benefits I wasn't entitled to any help! It's not like I wanted money, I needed a little home assistance considering I had a baby! Hah! The whole thing is just plain messed up!

Li Isn't it funny how it's us 'middle class' who keep getting squeezed?? Because we can afford food! I keep telling DH we should become bums...! Lucky for the government we have principles so will keep paying through the nose to pay for those who don't deserve it...

Well Eliza is finally on the mend :D

Before she got sick she was eating 32oz milk a day or more! She's been on 20-22oz since thursday and I was getting worried, and saw the HV yesterday! Anyway, Eliza woke up hungry today and had 20 oz between 5am - 1pm!! She went to bed having had 31oz, and I am the happiest mummy ever :D

She gained 10oz in the last two weeks (which is okay, but not great... considering how poorly she was it's actually amazing she gained any weight at all!)

She is now 11lbs 13oz

... right off to update my avitar :D

NB: MSE won't let me change my Avitar AGAIN!!! So frustrating as she has the most beautiful new green dress! :(
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

LealeaV - sorry you are finding it tough at the moment, I hope things sort themselves out for you and start going better soon and that the pain is all gone very soon.

Rising - there seem to be more and more inequalities over time, I suppose it is partly a symptom of the current financial mess that the country seems to be in, but that doesn't make it seem any less unreasonable.

JulieG - great to hear Eliza is properly on the mend

LianneH - I feel the need to point out I am not quite as heartless as 5 days makes me sound, she had been going off and not eating her old food, and finally got to a point when she hadn't eaten for two days, so I took her to the vet who suggested trying something completely different, and suggested what his dog has but that didn't work for the next 3 days, at which point she was miserable and I was a complete worrying wreck and I caved and cooked up some chicken and rice that she wolfed down straight away. It took months before I got onto mixture that was more kibble than chicken and rice.

I've just entered my little doggy in a Next Dog Model contest - I know she won't win as last year it was the people with millions of facebook friends who won who managed to rally them all to vote, I know I am biased but I do think she is the cutest, if not the most model-esque (see my new avatar if it has worked ok)

JG: OMG! my 'name' and the words middle class in the same sentence I would be disowned if my family saw that! I have always still thought myself as working class. no matter what 'class' im in, im still skint and trying to balance the books!! lol

SOT: never thought of you as heartless at all! My dog trainer would have hailed you a hero for at least trying. Well the pooch must be eating ok now if she's entering a show!

Aim for this month is to stay within the food budget, which I think we have actually done in the past, but it looks on my spreadsheet as if I haven't as I have just lumped all the "Tesc0" and "@sda" stuff together and called it food, when its possibly not all just food. note to self: must try harder!

I used to do this too :o - my "grocery" budget now includes cleaning stuff & toiletries too .... saves a load of hassle trying to work it out!:D

Me too. Groceries is food, cleaning and toiletries for me too. If I get any clothes or pressies in the supermarket I split them out of the amount on my spreadsheet as that is another weak budgeting area for me.

I am on track to be in budget so far this month on food, but not by nearly as much as I should have been given the ample store cupboard and freezer contents at the start of the month. Still, if I am not over it will be over the moon, and there is still a fair bit in stock, so hopefully next month will be even better now I am getting the hang of actually using things up!

She can still be funny about food, but less so now I have found a suitable mixture, I still panic when she refuses a meal but it is **usually** only every now and then (fingers crossed I've not jinxed it again!)

I admit to being quiet unsure about it all... I haven't two pennies to rub together either! And I don't own my own house either, nore have I had my hair cut in almost a year! But I do believe the government classes me as 'middle class' otherwise why else would I be loosing my Child Tax Credits???

I watched this on 'come dine with me' how two people in simular situations put themselves in different classes, so it's hard to difine!

Either way i'm getting sr£wed by the government along with everyone else...
