  • I bought my mother-in-law one of these last year.

She hasn't hit me with her broomstick so it must still be working well for her.

My son has one in his flat, no complaints there either.

I remember years ago when the likes of BBC Watchdog were campaigning to have plugs fitted as standard on new electrical items. (Anyone remember when you had to fit your own plug on everything? It seems hard to believe now that every new electrical item had loose metal wires poking out of the end of the flex.)

The manufacturers refused to fit plugs for years, claiming that it would push up the price of electrical goods to unreasonable levels, and the consumer would suffer.

And yet here we are in 2007, and look at this. £9 for a DVD player - with a plug included. Yet they were claiming in the 1980s that it wasn't economically viable to fit a plug on a £400 video recorder.

    Amazing how times change.

    GOT ONE!

Went to Leyton Mills ASDA, they had 2 pallets of them and at about 0550 (10 minutes early) I went to the till and said "Are these going through at £9 yet?" and the supervisor said "They might as well, we can't set the new price until 9am anyway" so I got the first one at £9 there, and possibly anywhere!

Bought it because I bought one years ago for £19.99, made it multi-regional easily and have used it with no problems at all ever since. A nice, tidy, neat little player.

    Great spot OP.

mr divadee got 2 this morning. It is only 1 per customer so he had to go through the tills twice each time using a different cashier!!!!

no my brother has announced that he wants one, so i will have to go back later!!! if they have any left.

mr divadee said they were literally flying off the shelves, mainly by staff.

yeah, it's at this price because they're not paying the workers in the far east that much.

buy this at your conscience ...

    Have a word with yerself.
Do you get written confirmation of the wage structure and terms and conditions of the workers producing every product you buy?

This is a great bargain and thanks should be all that are posted to the original poster.

This site has so much useful information often spoiled by tree huggers and bin rakers who have found widgets for a penny and buy 200 just because they are cheap. There's a real sense of greed pervades this board sometimes.

Thanks for the tip. Think I'll get one for my old man in hospital. It won't be so much of a loss when the staff bust it, and they will. We're on his 3rd telly and vcr in 3 years.

    And....and.......and..... I'm all excited by this :D

If my memory serves me right you get a 2year warranty(maybe 1yr) with every electrical item bought at ASDA,which makes an amazing buy

They stopped the 2 year thing a couple of years ago, unfortunately.

I've not personally known a DVD player not to have RGB out on the scart.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
