Ok guys, I'm hoping a cooking expert can help me with this :)

We got a bargain bag of veg yesterday but at the bottom of the bag was about 7 or 8 mini cabbages and I haven't got a clue what to do with them!!! I hate cabbage (bad memories of school as they used to force us to eat it!) but I thought about cooking it in something to disguise it? Any ideas? Maybe soup, I do cook my own soups. I'm open to other suggestions. We have a slow cooker so I could use it in a meal cooked in that.

if you slice it up you can put it into a stir fry, hide it in soup, as you say in a casserole in slow cooker. you could always pass some onto a friend if you still have some left

This has nothing to do with moneysaving (except maybe hopes of babysitting exchange!) but I don't know where else to ask and I hope I'll be forgiven for posting here...just delete if not, I'd understand. :o

I'm not British and although I've lived here 10 +years I regularly feel that i put my foot in it.

Some new neighbours have moved in. They've got several kids, the youngest of whom is a few months older than my toddler. The mum seems to be a stay at home mum like me.

I've chatted to them across the fence to introduce ourselves. They were very warm and friendly.

Would it be weird if I asked the mum to come over for coffee and a slice of cake bringing whoever else wants to come?

Me again but with a different question?

Why is it that some walnuts taste very bitter while others don't?

Organic/non-organic doesn't seem to change anything.

Wouldn't seem weird to me ... just very friendly. I might ask her at a time when I thought she wouldn't have too many of her older children with her: unless you're used to older children and have suitable entertainment for them it can be a strain ... So during school time maybe! Maybe, until you know her better, an hour or so before she goes out to pick the older ones up from school, so she can't outstay her welcome if you find you don't get on as well as you'd hoped ...

My tablecloth still smells ... which is all I really came to check up on :rotfl:

Left over Chinese - quick answer please

Had a hectic weekend post illness, going back to work on Thursday, DGSs for 2 sleeps and DGS1 being sick Friday night.

Decided tonight to treat myself to King Prawn Mushroom and fried rice carry out. Absolutely delicious and hit the spot but huge portion. Quite happy to
have again tomorrow night. OK just in fridge, properly packaged and properly re-heated tomorrow night?

    Any advice welcome.

    Thanks, GB

npsmama - just do the invitation. Some folk can be a wee bit reserved. I was brought up in an environment that anyone was welcome if they came to the door, which I have continued. Some folk just don't know just quite how to let the barriers down!

PS My Mum opened the door to a religious cult and it took a year to get rid of them - she was too generous with the tea and biscuits and being nice!!!

Definitely! I frequently eat the leftovers after they have just been shoved in the microwave and left all night! I have been told I have a cast iron stomach though :D But storing them in the fridge will be fine as long as you reheat them thoroughly tomorrow.

  • Happybunny - use a wee bit of oil and and salt and rub well into hands - I have found it gets rid of all types of staining - especially after gardening. Wash well thereafter with a bit of washing up liquid and then put plenty of conditioning cream on. Hands feel soft and clean thereafter!

  • Sorry table cloth still stinky- I would recommemd a gentle wash with fabric conditioner and then a blow outside depending on weather.

    Hope this helps.
