  • I agree with Thriftlady. Green and brown lentils can be interchanged in recipes. Red lentils are different as they're smaller and mush up.

    Thank you

I thought that was the case. Just wanted some reassurance.

    Thanks again guys.

  • Hi, when you use white vinegar to get rid of limescale in a kettle, what exactly do you do? Do you boil it? Leave it over night? Dilute it at all? Sorry for the dumb questions... I'm new to OS, but keen to learn :D

Last time I did it I diluted the vinegar so it reached the line of scale inside the kettle, then I boiled it - and it boiled over!! :rotfl:

Last suggestion I read (that I intend to apply next time) is to fill kettle with water up to the scale mark, add a few table spoons of vinegar and leave overnight. ;)

That recipe is a wee bit similar to soda bread, which is lovely, but doesn't keep very well. Don't over-knead it.

I went back to making my own Loaves of Bread last week, and i store them wrapped in a linen Tea Towel in a Metal Bread Bin.
Today i also made some Baps/ Barmcakes - Fabulous
Q - what is the best way to store these as from memory they tend not to keep fresh tasting for more than the day they were made ( don't expect them to last longer than overnight though)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have never found a way to make these or keep them so they are as good on the second day so I would love to hear if anyone else has solved this problem. They are good toasted though.

Ice-cream from soya milk - is it possible??

My eldest DD has developed eczema on the backs of her legs so i am thinking of changing to to either goats milk or soya milk (plus soya yoghurts etc). Just wondered if once we have changed over to non-dairy and there is an improvement if you can make your own ice-cream?? would hate her to feel she is missing out.

    Thanks in advanace
