  • Hi Everyone

My hands are in a bad state generally, but are worse at the moment due to dirt becoming ingrained.

They look really bad, I'm embarrassed about them

Hand cream in general seems to make them very dry, and if I try anything like vaseline, it just sits on top and never soaks in, (perhaps it's not meant to)

    Anyone any ideas please

    Hi Happy Bunny

I rub olive oil on my hands if they get chapped, soaks in and moisturises.

    HTH
  • I'm sure I read somewhere that stardrops although not meant for skincare-inadvertantley cleaned hands too. It was probably on the 'stardrops...probably the best thread in the world ever' thread !!!!!

Yes, it's another smelly question! :rotfl:

Yesterday we bought a new tablecloth, some of that coated cotton, bought by the meter from John Lewis.

Only when I got it out of the carrier bag the smell nearly knocked me out! So there's no way it can go on the table just yet.

I've draped it over a clothes airer by the back door, but it doesn't seem to have improved at all (24 hours!)

Any suggestions, before we all get high ...

at night try using lots of moisturiser and then go to bed with cotton gloves on - helps it sink in.

    thanks in advance

Just got out the pack of pork steaks I bought yesterday (opened yesterday, sell by date several days from now) and they've started to go a horrid grey colour. Anyone know why? don't feel like eating them, so no Sunday dinner for us...
  • My OH says don't take the chance with it-if its grey then it isn't right. It probably hasn't been stored properly before you bought it. I would take it back and demand a safe alternative. Doesn't help you now tho-hope u manage to salvage yr sunday dinner !! looby

The answer is yes and no. It depends a lot on what you want to use it for. IMO butter is always a good substitute for marg but there really is no substitute for lard. It has a much higher "burning point" than butter and in pastry you don't get the same "flakiness" with butter. However, it is sweeter than lard so sometimes I use it in a sweet dish.
Hope this is what you were looking for.
