What is it that is put on homemade bread (like a topping?) that's sort of grainy/crumbly - ummm......looks like fine breadcrumbs, but I don't think it is. I'd like to give it a try on one of my homemade loaves if anyone knows.

No, it's more the consistency of fine breadcrumbs, but I really don't think that's it.

Possibly semolina flour - I've seen that texture on the surface of things like sub-rolls etc.

HELP ! I am so stupid sometimes ... I got a big batch of mushrooms, and threw them in the freezer whole. Now I have a load of small rocks and when I added one to my stew it came out like a giant rubber. What can I do with whole frozen mushrooms ?? :(

I've just bought an aubergine (reduced to 10p ;) ) but have no idea what I can do with it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Could you make a sort of ratatouille? Some onions, courgettes, tomatoes, aubergine, garlic and herbs. You can make an aubergine chutney, but I don't know the recipe and I think you might need more than one aubergine.
