Hi. I've seen these silicone 'tins' and they seem so soft and pliable, I have coincern that if the oven is too hot they might melt, how do you get the cake out? what are the advantages of using silicone as opposed to a 'normal' non stick tin please?
Well, I haven't melted one yet. I'm also using some silicone spoons and stirrers when I'm cooking, and they're fine too, even when left in the pan. Some of my old plastic stirrers have partly melted handles where I've left them on the lip of the pan but still on the heat!

You must put them on a metal tray before you put them in the oven: I usually put them on the tray before I fill them, TBH! Then someone said you must let them cool thoroughly IN the tray. And then you just peel them off!

I know silicone can't be used for breast implants any more. I don't know what they're using now: TBH I'm not sure that anything could leak into the breast without causing SOME problems.

I must say I'm happier using silicone baking trays than ones with a Teflon lining. Doesn't matter how careful I am, SOMEONE always seems to attack them with a sharp knife, and then there are bits of Teflon no longer stuck to the tin - probably stuck to my food!

Thank you Savvy_Sue, Yes I have problems with the teflon coated tins being attacked with sharp implements!!! And occasionally, I have caught some helpful person, trying to clean them with a pan scrubber!!! So, I end up buying some more...til next time!!! So I might try the silicone ones.
I am good at melting plastic spatulas in pans etc too. I didn't know you could get silicone implements as well.
So many things to try... good job I'm on here trying to save money and cut costs. lol.

I'm seeing more and more silicone kitchen tools these days. I have a lovely 'bowl scraper' which gets a cake mixing bowl almost spotless! I wouldn't leave that in a hot pan, I think its handle is only 'ordinary' plastic. But I bought a pink spoon the other day, shaped like a wooden spoon, and it's been brilliant for stirring stir-fries AND mixing cakes: it flexes right into the corners yet is tough enough to mash things up IYSWIM.

  • Does anyone know if you can freeze beensprouts?

  • I would think you could freeze them, but there's a lot of water in them, so they would defrost quite limp I would think. Having said that, you can buy frozen stir fry mix that has beansprouts in. hth.

  • I've some leftover glace icing (lemon juice and icing sugar).I've squirreled it away in the freezer and know it will be edible, but will it be usable for icing cakes once defrosted ?
