just done a freezer inventory and found a pack of pork sausagemeat and some puff pastry lurking at the bottom on a drawer.

The sausagemeat was Use by 06 May 07.. was frozen on day of purchase - would it still be ok to make some sausage rolls with since its sat there for 6 months??

Also a piece of trout fillet - possibly from august maybe earlier  (I really need to label my reduced bargains when i freeze them!) would that be ok to eat still? (my freezer says 3 months for fish.. )

I've made my Christmas cake today using the Delia Smith recipe (which I always use). Have just realised that I forgot to add the Tbsp of black treacel  Will this make a difference or will it be ok?

    TIA
  • Trust me it will make no difference at all Honey ;) It won't be as dark as Delia intended -but hey, she won't know :D

Well, let's just say I would happily use all of the above, and we're all still here. I might not serve the trout fillet at a dinner party, but would mix it up with something. And give it a good sniff once it's defrosted!

Some of us on the Christmas board would like to know how long homemade shortbread keeps for if it's wrapped well.

I said that you lot here will know!

  • Shortbread will keep for long enough, if it's kept cool and in a sealed box, i.e tupperware or lock n lock box. if you want to freshen it up again, just pop back in the oven for just a few mins, it tastes just like fresh made.

Thanks for the reply but how long is "long enough"!

I was going to make some to take as gifts on Boxing Day, would making it on say the 23rd be too long for it to keep?

  • Please can anyone tell me whether I can steam a pudding in my SC? If so how? :o

OK............please feel free to ignore me I have found what I wanted in the SC section of the brilliant indexed collections!! It was really easy to find the info when I bothered looking properly.

  • I've been thinking of getting 'winter' curtains for a few years now, but never been able to find what I wanted. Now I've finally realised velvet curtains are the way to go, I hadn't realised they were so expensive . A little research today showed prices of between £40 (reduced but wrong colour) to £80

I've got a sewing machine I haven't used in a few years and I wasn't that great when I did use it :D. My windows are an odd size, of 55' drop and the width varies from 47 to 74 inches.

Could I, as a complete novice, make a pair of curtains? How difficult could it be? :confused:_pale_ They would be in the living room (74 x 55), so they would have to turn out fairly decent.

    Thoughts greatfully received.

angel, do you mean the 23rd December or November? If December absolutely fine:D If November also absolutely fine but you will need to make sure they are stored in a really air-tight container:D
