Have cooked butternut squash for the first time yesterday, roasted and then in soup, delicious, even if I say so myself.
Here comes a question, though: Is there a simple way of peeling this veg? I found it quite a hard and time consuming, so I'm hoping someone out there has a handy hint.
Thanks for looking!0 -
Potato peeler - cut it into manageable chunks first. But it's not particularly easy!
Or roast it with the peel on and scrape the flesh out afterwards.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
carolt quote: "Seems cheeky to give this its own thread as there are already indexed threads on the subject - so at the risk of appearing very stupid: there is orange stuff appearing (appeared?) round our bath/on the tiles/sealant and on the bottom of the shower curtain - not a huge amount yet. Is this mould or mildew or just residue from something (shampoo?)"I get this orange stuff. I always blame something in the water!
One of my friends had this last year - and it turned out to be some kind of bacterial growth - serratia marcescens.
I've just gone back over what she said about it at the time and come across this - may help explain better than I can.

Incidentally, I got the exact same thing when I moved into a newly-built house last year - for a while I felt like ringing a bell and calling out 'unclean, unclean!'.

Hi sorry if this has been asked before.
From reading the threads, I am thinking of investing in a slow cooker. However, being the daughter of a fireman (and had life long fire safety instilled in me!), I am wary about leaving something cooking all day when the house is empty.
Is it ok to leave unattended or is it a risk?
Edit - sorry just noticed there is a slow cooker questions thread have posted there as well! (its late thats my excuse x)Pay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

Seems cheeky to give this its own thread as there are already indexed threads on the subject - so at the risk of appearing very stupid: there is orange stuff appearing (appeared?) round our bath/on the tiles/sealant and on the bottom of the shower curtain - not a huge amount yet. Is this mould or mildew or just residue from something (shampoo?) There is also a little bit of greyish blackish mould which I can identify as such. Before treating it as mould or mildew (what's the difference?), have I correctly identified it?
Thank you!

Hello, not sure if this is the right place or not....still finding my way around the boards. I need to buy tinned tomatoes for tea tomorrow (to put in a curry). I'm v lucky that I work near a Tesco Metro and a Lidl. Does anyone have a recommendation for which one to go to for my cheap toms? Ta xx0
-
Personally I find the Lidl chopped tomatoes less watery than the Value Tesco chopped tomatoes. If you're buying unchopped tomatoes I can't help, I go into 'hang the expense' mode when we're talking pennies ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

Thanks Sue. I'm not a very good DFW. I didnt consider unchopped!!! I'll go for Lidl xx0
