I am a sidetracker; I begin each financial year with great intentions and then, fall to the wayside a tad (shhh! That's between you and me, right?). As hq just said, each financial year brings it's own challenges (well, she *nearly* said that, LOL) so, those who have been inspired to begin *this* month, great!!! Those awaiting 2005/06 financial *year* challenge, that's great too! Equally, there will be others who join this site in the months to come who wish to jump right in and haven't saved/pared down/grasped couponing/realised how much they spend vs. how much they can downsize so haven't the advantage of X amount of months behind them.
I think what I'm really saying is this:- if you are already accruing 'pin money', it counts; you merely keep it as your "opening balance"! If you are waiting for the new financial year and beginning from scratch that is great too! Fair enough, you don't have anything to accrued, that will come next yearWhat you may want to calculate if you have been doing this or something like it during the past year/s (which will most definately be a good incentive to those who are beginning now) is to calculate the amount of interest you have "earned" on your past year/s of scrimping/scraping and trimming the fat off your housekeeping budget
(once again, that is BONUS money).

Can't stand them, but the jars are great for holding coins.

I'm going to join in too, have struggled with the other challenges cos we don't spend much anyway, but this is definately something we can do, I'm going to keep a spreadsheet of my pin money and transfer the amount each month to my other bank account, which I am using to save for my hen night and few days away before the wedding in june. I've decided I can't wait till the beginning of the tax year so will start on friday when I get paid instead.Total Debt (27th Nov 08) £16,707.03 Now £5,102.72Debt Free Date [strike]Nov 2012[/strike] August 20110

I'm starting on 1st April as that's when my new car insurance and rates start so better to know what I am up against. I know this is a bit cheeky but could anyone post a copy of the spreadsheet they shall be using? I am totally cr*p at Excel and will otherwise have to just do it in a note book.
Thanks!0 -

Isn't TODAY always a good starting point? After all, tomorrow never comes.
Sadly I've spent my life saying 'I'll start (whatever) tomorrow:o . This time I'm really going to do it - better late than never :j0
