We are having the same problems with them at the moment - being told all the time that the refund has been processed.0

I can tell you all now you will not get your money back off these rip off merchants unless you do it via your bank/credit card.
I got charged twice by them last year for van hire, they took two deposits from me and two hire charges. I was promised constantly I had been refunded or I would be refunded. I got one set of payments back via my credit card company but I am still down one deposit - £250!! I issued them with a summons which you can do online and I strongly suggest everyone does it, and please if you are on twitter and online email Watchdog about them. Look at all the complaints about them on the measured up website.
If you want to issue a summons to them you can do it all online via the government gateway. Its really easy, trust me if I can do it anyone can! Google moneyclaim gov uk
I issued my summons to them a week ago and they tried calling me yesterday... unfortunately I was out but I'm going to wait for them to call me again - I've wasted enough money on phone calls to these thieves already. Don't wait around in hope please take action because they need to be stopped.

Same problem, van hire on 27th March, and still no £250 deposit refund. I have emailed them several times and I have just phoned them threatening them with legal action - the person who answered the phone put me on hold for ages and then came back and said it would be refunded in 24 hours. After reading your posts, I can't say I'm optimistic.....:mad:0

I hired a van on a business credit card on the 31st Jan this year, today my accounts department have just advised me the £250 deposit has still not been refunded! I am furious about this as I had no idea they are a potential rogue company!
I am currently on hold waiting to speak with a manager.0 -
Apparently I will receive a credit in 2-3 business days.....
Lets see0 -
robodan, don't hold out too much hope. We were told that a month ago! I would advise you to complain to your bank if your deposit does not materialise in the promised 2-3 days and see if you can get a refund back via your card.
It's scandalous that they are getting away with this.0 -
All,
You are likely to have rights under Section 75 of your credit card agreement providing the following applies:
1. you used a credit card to purchase the deposit
2. your purchase is over £100.00
Section 75 means that your issuing bank (bank where the credit card was issued from i.e. Barclays) is equally responsible as the acquiring bank (merchant in this case A1 National).
I cant remember the specifics, however I believe section 75 will apply in this case.
Good luck!!! :TIf it helped, say thanks...0 -
Our problem is that we paid by debit card, so are not covered by Section 75. However, we are trying to get the deposit back via Visa dispute. I do hope Visa do not let them get away with this.0

Praise indeed to a very helpful Nationwide and to Visa Dispute for getting our deposit back from these rogues after paying by a visa debit card!!!
I hope A1 are not getting away with all this.0 -
the same issue as everyone else. the vehicle was supplied okay albeit late via a local company and the vehicle was fine (albeit damaged in a few places although the local people had a very thorough and accurate list of damage which was agreed between myself and them and it was returned in the same condition) there was no dispute on condition or fuel level on return. But the £500 deposit has not been refunded seven weeks later despite being promised twice(and A1 initially trying to deny giving some of it back due to fuel level discrepancy - which they immediately caved in on when I said the local company were fine with fuel levels on the returned vehicle). Attempted to report this to trading standards (doesn't inspire confidence and I wouldn't be inclined to bother - which is very sad given that these people should be reported by as many people who suffer this treatment - but the system was useless) Fortunately we have paid with a credit card and it has been logged as a dispute and we will hopefully receive the deposit back in due course. A great shame - this is a potentially good business being let down by sharp practice0
