Hi All,
Just been reading this and thought I'd find somewhere to post it. Sorry it's straight after your post MsShopper - but not really the same as your photographer IS a prof photographer of people!
Should I book a Proffessional Photographer? A story on Rock n Roll Bride:

And to answer the actual question:
In Manchester we paid £1500. We had
a Pre-wedding shoot with 70 images on a CD
full wedding day, preps to after first dance
CD with over 1100 images of the day
DVD with all those images set to music
Fancy album from Italy
2 smaller copies of album for parents
7 even smaller copies for other special people
We could have just had the images for £700 which would have been enough really - but the photos was our big splurge!!Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93

That is so sadand also why we would never skimp on photography for our wedding. It's too important. Also, I've heard a few horror stories from friends who did go the cheap/friends route. Shudder.

I am a wedding photographer so the decision for who I would use wasn't a hard one, Im obviously using my boss. Im lucky that I get mates rates, but even then he doesn't charge much. We specialise in amazing images without the amazing price eg, affordable photography for all.
I will say this however, your not just paying for the photographer on the day, there is a lot of time that goes into post production and editing.
Equipment costs are very high and must be kept up to date.
When we shoot a wedding we have 2+ photographers and have at least 6 cameras with us.
Also ''most'' brides have no idea what they want. The amount of times we hear people say No we don't want that, then come the day they do want it is unreal, but we dont mind as we have shot so many wedding we are prepared for it and totally flexible.
Or they have their heart set on a style and they look at their pictures and prefer the images in a style they said they initially hated, as we shoot all styles on a wedding day, formal, reportage etc.
Keep an open mind, ask to see several FULL wedding albums from a photographer from start to finish, and not just the ones they show you.
Not only do we shoot images, we run around, helping the bride and groom, last weekend I helped get a bride dressed as they were seriously running late and no one knew how to lace her dress up. Something that had slipped everyones mind to learn.
But overall decide on how you will use your images before you book a photographer, we don't want an album, we'll never look at it, we are having a disk, and a couple of framed prints done. I didnt want to spend so much money on an album that would just gather dust, an album doesnt suit us.
As for students at college, I was one once, they arent all rubbish, to become a student at college / uni, you have to have some talent to get on the course in the 1st place. Im having a few students at our wedding just so they get some experience, the only reason im using my boss to do my main pictures, is because i am a photographer and I arent interested in the normal wedding shots, we are going for some seriously arty shots for our walls.
OP - I would seriously look elsewhere 1st.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0
