Have a look on a site called blipfoto. it's a daily photo journal i and thousands of others keep. You will find professionals and semi pros and serious hobbyists. There is a chance you will also find someone who is looking to expand their portfolio for a much smaller fee. It's free to join up and could save you a blooming fortune. Plus, who knkows, you may want to become part of the site and record your wedding preparation on a daily basis! I know I will be nearer the time - much like http://www.blipfoto.com/entry/1495103 this one from yesterday!

We chose a photographer who has been running his wedding photography business for 30 years. He was fantastic, we knew that he knew our church & venue well and had great word of mouth recommendations. In person we got on with him really well, felt very relaxed with him and knew he was the right person to be involved in our day. We paid £950 for the proof book to keep, containing all photos, and for all photos edited with reproduction rights on DVD.

We also had a ken photographer friend taking more 'casual' photos throughout the day for nothing, so we got the best of both worlds really!
  • I think photography prices differ vastly depending on where in the UK you live! I know when looking at photographers for a friends wedding in Liverpool they were 1/3 of the prices Im being quoted for Aberdeen, and its not just photography, bands etc all charge a lot more in certain areas!
My photographer is amazing and the package I have gone for has
    *pre-wedding shoot with disc
*on the day from brides prep through to first 3 or 4 dances
*disc of all images and copyright

The package price was £1250 which is quite well priced (Ive gotten quotes from photographers who charge upwards of £1800 for this type of package!) However I emailed the photographer and brazenly said I loved her work, and was very interested but our budget was £900 max, and if theres any deals she could do. She agreed to give us the £1250 package for £900 as she said she appreciated my honestly etc! Im really happy with this, I know its a lot of money but photography was probably the second most important purchase of the day after the venue. I understand people have priorities, to me the cake or flowers arent that important so they are being done cheaply (a friends mums making the cake, nowt too fancy, and we are having fake flowers) However I am happy paying £900 for stunning pictures of our special day, to help us capture the memories!
Ideas, help and advice always welcome, judgements and assumptions are not!!

  • This is very MSE, but I'm prepared to get slated for this... We're paying £3,200 for our photographer!

    This includes:
    - a Queensberry 12 x 12 Classic album with the DUO upgrade with 60 images
    - a high resolution disk containing 400 images.
    - two Queensberry small format parent albums, 8" x 8"

These Queensbury albums are fantastic, but they do come at a price.

Our photographer is also a top end photographer and we instantly fell in love with his work.
Out of all the photographers we saw, we were really impressed with his professionalism and personality. The other guys were alright (all award winning photographers too), but we just seemed to click best with him.

He only wants a light meal, such as a sandwich, so that he remains fresh to take photos.
He also said that he won't be able to take take another booking that day, so we could have him however long we wanted - from bridal prep to party, whereas other photogrpphers were looking at accommodation if they had to stay past 9pm!

We were prepared to pay extra for a photographer that we really liked. The wedding is for one day, but hopefully the photos will be around for generations.

These prices are actually old prices, but he's fixed them at the time of enquiry. They've gone up already and are bound to go up again by the wedding in 2013.

I did think about just getting the photos only package at £1350 and doing the albums myself.
But part of what you're paying for, isn't just the photos that he takes, it's his creativity and ideas on representing your wedding day in an album. As said above, we also love the Quuensbury albums and I'm not totally convinced with the wholly digital albums that you can do online.

Here's a link to our photographers website...

    http://www.venusweddingphotography.co.uk/

They were fantastic! We had an engagement shoot with them before the big day & I also had a boudoir shoot with them as a present to my husband on the big day :)

The price is £799 & includes...

    The pre-wedding/engagement shoot
2 photographers with you all day from the preparations to the first dance (this was one of the key things that swayed us as it meant both my preparation as the bride, as well as the groom getting ready was captured!)
Online gallery to share with family and friends
A CD of 'facebook friendly' sized photographs so you can upload and show everyone (low res images)
A high-resolutions CD of all your wedding photographs so you can print as many copies as you like for family & friends

They can also do prints, albums, trash/cherish the dress shoots, boudoir shoots, pretty much anything you could think of! They're fantastic & I can't reccomend them highly enough :)
  • we got a special deal with ours, for £300, we get:
2 photographers for up to 12hrs
    pre wedding shoot
    boudoir photo shoot,
    unlimited photographs
    2 photo albums
High Res CD with all the photographs on

Why will you get slated, what/how you chose to spend your money is up to you

Some people want to spend more on photos
Some want to spend £1000's on a dress
    Some £1000's on the food

Its whats important to you. For me the photos are more important that the dress & £1000 is what i was expecting, but for that i just thought id get more than a CD with about 300 images on it

I went to a wedding fayre today & £1000 does seem about right but they give more for that than what i would be getting from my photographers
    Getting married Sat 1st September.
Saving like mad for the next 40 weeks

Our photographer is called Mike and although we haven't actually used him (we have our pre wedding shoot in March anad wedding in April) he is really helpful and friendly. We are getting married in edinburgh but he does other parts of Scotland too so it may be worth contacting him to see if he will go to Aberdeen. This is his facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Mike-Cook-Photography/117051278345945
