  • That's good going Daisy, well done! Good to know the efforts are actually making a real measurable difference isn't it?

Thanks southerndave. I started my MFW journey, just under 2 years ago and at the time we were set to repay the mortgage 1 month early. In the past 2 years we have managed to reduce the mortgage by 3 years and 2 months :).
  • That's great. How do you work out the early re-payment forecast? Virgin does not show this, only the amount ahead of plan we are.

I have an Excel Spreadsheet (courtesy of Financialbliss' thread) which works out my annual, monthly and daily interest, as well as the mortgage end date. I also get sent a quarterly mortgage statement by Natwest which tells me when my mortgage is due to end. It is a couple of months 'off' my spreadsheet, but the spreadsheet is accurate as it takes into consideration what we have in the offset accounts, whereas the Natwest statement is just based on my monthly mortgage payment.
  • Will check that thread out, thanks!

Had a lovely weekend, did lots with boys and DS1's school friend came over for the morning yesterday. It was chaos in the house, children running around everywhere (more than usual ) with DS2 in the thick of it, but enjoyed by all.

Moved money between accounts and made a mortgage overpayment of £50 and added money to Savings.

DH has had a letter to say that he will be having a Tax Rebate of £168. So I'll put that into his Biking account as he needs a few bits and pieces for his bikes. He has also had a pay rise of around £30 a week.

Had to buy a new kitchen bin as my Brabantia bin has broken - the lid has been slammed down too many times (a little too hard by the children) and the catch broke. I'm sure it has a 10 year guarantee but not got the receipt. I looked at getting another one but they cost £70-90. Obviously before I started this MFW I bought one, but now I can't justify spending that amount on a bin, so I got an Addis touch lid for £18.99 (and it looks nice). Maybe I'll treat myself to another Brabantia when I become Mortgage Free :rotfl:.
  • Is it repairable? Might be worth contacting Brabiantina as they may honour the guarantee anyway or provide spares? Just a thought...

I've just had a look at their website. The catch on the lid has completely snapped off and I have't got the receipt, but I can buy a replacement lid for £34.80 . The new bin is 2 litres smaller and is a lot less bulky than the Brabantia, but as we are recycling more now, we don't need a big bin. I'll have to have a think about this one as it's a lot of money for a bin lid.
  • Hi Daisy, sorry stuff like this bugs me, its the engineering side of me!! Had a quick Google and I reckon you should try and claim under the gauruntee as I think there has been an issue with these bins. Just the catch (if this is the right one) is £4 from Brabiantina:

Have a read for these as well and do a Google search using 'parts for Brabiantina Touch Bin' for more!

Of course, you should've just checked out this mine for information first....;)
