Yes, there does seem to be a lot going on but I also don't want DS1 to miss out on things that his school friends are doing. A lot of the payments are voluntary, but I do pay as it means the trips/events will be cancelled if not enough is raised. Also, for the children who's parents are unable to afford to pay for the trips, I feel that by paying their children are going to get the opportunity to go as well, so they don't miss out either :).

That's exactly the peer pressure I meant. Most of the parents in our child's school who never seem to be able to 'afford' to pay for these things, never seem short of enough cash for mobiles, sky tv, fags, etc.

Maybe I am an old cynic.......:(

Food plan has been done and pinned onto the fridge, so there should be no more 'there's nothing here to eat' conversations in the house :rotfl:. Cooked a big batch of spaghetti bolognese (as mince needed to be used up) and we now have enough frozen for 3 family meals. Going to make Leek & Potato soup tomorrow, freeze it and I can have it for my lunch at work.

Popped into town this morning and bought some Christmas wrapping paper. Spent a couple of hours wrapping presents and I am 3/4 done. Used up left over wrapping paper and self-adhesive tags from last year, so this saved some money.

Redeemed £12 from a survey site and made a mortgage overpayment. Monthly interest is due to be added to the mortgage tomorrow, but doubt it will be less than last month as I have taken out money from the offset savings account to pay for car repairs.

£167.25 monthly interest added to the mortgage today. I am surprised but it's £4.52 less than last month. Due to it being an Offset account, this is an OP of £89 towards the mortgage, without having to do anything.

This has reduced the mortgage term by another month. We are now on target to repay 3 years and 3 months earlier (October 2022) :j.

Turned the heating on last night - just for 20 minutes to see if all radiators are working Ok. Luckily they are as I don't want to find it's not working when the heating needs to go on.

Another batch of cooking on the stove, Leek & Potato soup. Again, will decant into containers and store in the freezer.

Thanks Happier Me. I'm on-call this weekend which means I can't venture out too far from home, so I'll probably end up making a large chicken curry which I'll freeze for future family meals.

You should pop over to Tilly's Diary, as she is the Queen of menu planning, freezer inventories and organising etc and always has exciting meals :).

My 'Healthier Me' regime starts tomorrow and I have 3 months to shape-up for Christmas. I hope to lose a couple of pounds and tone up and I intend doing this by exercising more and eating less treats. Unfortunately, DH is not at home tomorrow evening therefore I'm unable to go for a walk, so to compensate I am not going to eat any sweet treats (biscuits/chocolate) tomorrow and will do some skipping in the house when the children are in bed.

It's Pay Day on Thursday, so I'll be transferring money between the accounts and updating the October finances spreadsheet. I love doing this and working out the money for the month :).

Pay Day today :). Moved some money into Savings and increased the Emergency Fund by £50 and added £40 to the Car savings pot.

Made a mortgage overpayment of £54, which brings the mortgage balance down to £68,850. Would love to get the mortgage into the £65K's by the end of the year, not sure if it's possible but love a challenge :rotfl:.

Received a quarterly statement from Natwest today saying that I have saved a total of £2,550.75 in interest payments through offsetting.
  • Those annual statements are a real motivator!
  • DH got paid today, no mortgage overpayments made but moved money into Savings.

Weekly food shop done and I was £20 under budget and this included spending £11 on cycling accessories for DH. I am pleased with this as I didn't need to buy as much, now that I have done a menu plan. Aldi had some nappies left over from last week's promotion, so picked another box up and have enough for the next 2 weeks or so.

Spent the morning unblocking the washing machine as it stopped draining and spinning :(. Found some coins in the filter and luckily it now appears to be working ok and no longer sounds like a cement mixer when it's on the spin cycle.
